Even the shitty ship of Batman x Batgirl works better, and that's a shitty ship as well

It's a popular ship but every time it happens in comics it highlights just how they're completely unsuitable for each other and it's basically a crush on Wonder Woman's end.

McDuffie wrote the teleplay of The Brave and the Bold from season one which was the only episode of the season to hint at a future relationship between the two. He also wrote the episodes that furthered it in season two.

It wasn't a Wonder Woman cartoon, it was Justice League. There was no time/room to have Steve Trevor crash land on Paradise Island in the opening episode and they didn't want to have her as an established hero, so they changed the origin a bit. It was fine.
McDuffie did Hawkman far dirtier. Only a handful of people really care about B-listers so they're free to play around with them.
