Avengers and Spider-Man will probably still make a billion next year. A movie's quality doesn't really decide it's performance at the box office nowadays, it's all to do with hype, memes, or/and nostalgia.

People are super selective with what they'll go to the theaters for these days. The simple fact of the matter is that Hollywood has given people shit for so long they'll only bother spending money on a movie if they're genuinely excited for it. Oppenheimer and Barbie got people hyped, Mario got people hyped, Spiderman and DeadpoolxWolverine got people hyped. Where the fuck was the hype for this movie? It didn't exist. Nobody I know was talking about it. My sister hates capeshit and even she was talking about Spiderman and Deadpool. The marketing for FF sucked and there was no hype to it AT ALL beyond "Omg it's Pedro Pascal, again".

Going to the Mario movie was easily one of the biggest mistakes of my theater-going life. Guardians of the Galaxy's success in 2014 was something nobody expected because they were always a c-d tier that only comicbook nerds knew or those adjacent from them via osmosis.
Fantastic Four on the other hand has always been known by the public. Maybe not as much as say Spiderman or Hulk or Xmen, but they were up there. Not to mention how this is the second reboot within 20 years.

I'm a big fan, but understand why they don't have mass appeal. FF is, at the end of the day, a bit of a more niche interest among superheroes; they don't have the "coolness" factor that makes people gravitate towards characters like Wolverine or Punisher ingrained in their identity, and is a far more nerdy property. I like them since I love the combination of science team + family drama, but general audiences will obviously prefer something flashier (which is not a bad thing). I I liked how the film respected that and focused more on the team's problem solving nature rather than just plain action, but it's hard for that to click with people.

I saw Fantastic Four and while the movie wasn't terrible, nobody is going to be leaving the theater with any of the characters as a new favorite, which is a big failure since the Fantastic Four are some of the most compelling characters in Marvel. It's easy to see why Superman succeeded succeeded where this failed as Gunn is skilled at making fun characters that people like. Audiences connect to characters and spectacle most with these movies and Fantastic Four was lacking in both unlike Superman.

Not a normie, but I am DONE with Marvel and DC in general.

Haven't seen a new Marvel or DC movie in years. I like other superhero stuff like Invincible, The Incredible's and The Tick 2016. but I am JUST DONE with the Big Two.

For Marvel, I stopped watching MCU movies when I missed a couple of films and shows because of work, tried to plan when to do them, and then I realized "Oh my god, I'm doing HOMEWORK to watch TELEVISION!" Since then, I started picking and choosing, and watched less and less after Avengers Endgame. I liked to follow, Loki, What If and Moon Knight. Loki finished, What If got worse over time (I didn't even watch half the episodes of season 3) and Moon Knight is cancelled.

Haven't seen a new Marvel movie in years. Oh, and I just can't be bothered with the DCU or DCEU or whatever. I saw Wonder Woman and Justice League Snyder Cut, but that's all.

It's just impossible to do a good F4 solo movie. They're not compelling characters and the only F4 villains anyone has ever cared about are Galactus (terrible movie villain) and Doom (who is way more interesting than the four). There's nothing to do with the material, no growth to be found, no interesting conflicts to explore. They're a happy, healthy, fully actualized team and family and that's fuckin' boring. Cape fans and general audiences don't want to watch a 90 minute TNG episode.

The Fantastic Four should just be side characters in other movies. Fuck, do a Future Foundation movie that follows Spider-Man.

That was totally on the studio. Both Thunderbolts and FF's post credits scenes were scenes from Doomsday, and not something that the team beyond each film were planning on (Matt Shackman said the TB's PCS was out of his control, and came late over FF's production). They shot themselves in the foot by making people think First Steps was a prelude to Doomsday when the film is self-contained.

The fact that their team name has a completely different meaning in the modern era is already an inconsistency with the basic themes of the group. All four are considered freaks and call themselves the Fantastic Four because they accept being a found family of outcasts, but that only works with the old meaning of fantastic which no one uses today. Fantastic is a synonym for good or great now and has no negative connotation anymore, so modern audiences don't get how they were basically naming themselves the equivalent of The Four Freaks back then.

The last marvel movie I went to the cinema for was Thor W&T, I was dumbfounded and appalled by how bad it was, from the script to the visual effects, at one point I had to see how other people where reacting, I couldn't be he only one which found this experience torturing. I look I my left and see a couple of grandpas visible confused yet content with their granddaughter in the middle, going absolutely apeshit with the slot on the screen. I turn to my right and I see a squalid man and a well behaved young girl (same as the other one, both probably in the single digits, don't know more about humans to pinpoint the exact number), clearly uninterested in the movie but happy to share this time with her father, who was fanboying about the screaming goats.
That was the moment I realized these movies no longer interested me, even if they are objectively bad they serve their purpose of entertaining the masses, white noise for some, or an opportunity for an encounter to others.
