I am interested. It would be cool to see more focus on Weekly, since he has been a staple of the books since Arctic Nation. Though I wonder if they will ever pick up on his storyline in They All Fall Down, where his style of yellow journalism was basically going out of style in favor of Rachel Zucco's work. Besides that, I think they are pushing to wrap up a lot of Blacksad's story and character arc, but Weekly still has a lot of fresh ground to explore.

Actually, while the general plot ends the same, a good chunk of the game-exclusive cast can live or die solely based on your choices. Where everyone ends up actually changes depending on your actions. Of course, since it’s set between Arctic Nation and Red Soul, the mainstays aren’t affected too much, but everyone else is basically fair game—and they really take advantage of that fact. The game itself is probably one of the most violent entries in the series, with the sheer number of people dying.

In general, I enjoy making Blacksad do things he might not do just to see the range of the character. I think a lot of telltale-like games miss that. I've been curious about that aspect of his character. Back when I was first reading through these books, I thought Weekly was just a temporary supporting character for the Arctic Nation story, and he would have no reason to show up in later stories. I figured Blacksad worked alone. Since Weekly was a fun character, I was surprised but happy when later books made him a recurring sidekick.

Was Weekly's character planned from the beginning even though his first appearance is in the second book? Was it part of the initial story concept that Blacksad would become a story about a mis-matched duo instead of a lone detective? Or did Weekly accidentally end up being so popular that they decided to keep him around and give him almost as much focus as the title character?

It is kinda funny that besides Weekly and Commissioner Smirnov, Blacksad has a terrible taste in friends. It seems to be a recurring pattern that many of the more sophisticated and famous people he likes turn out to be duplicitous—either outright bastards or just generally awful. Weekly, as the more down-to-earth working man, is ironically one of his most reliable and loyal friends.

This becomes especially apparent in Red Soul, particularly with the character shown in the attached picture. More broadly, all the left-leaning intellectuals Blacksad gravitates toward are either intentionally or unintentionally backstabbing, two-timing bastards, cowards, or even murderers. Some are outright traitors, while others are at least complicit. Now that I think about it, a large number of the “intellectuals” Blacksad likes end up having either figurative or literal skeletons in their closets.
