I'll try to read it sometime. Should I just go in blind? I don't mind but I just want to make sure. The covers are cool.
They're like a slideshow of every major western 90's graphical style, kek. Mister X is like that era personified going by the covers. As a 00's kid I had a lot of media that borrowed or used many of those styles in music videos, books, or games I would play. Made me feel nostalgic even though I didn't live through that time.
Oh yeah and Nick Cardy covers are pretty good. Haven't read the stuff but man Aquaman had some good art.

>They're like a slideshow of every major western 90's graphical style, kek. Mister X is like that era personified going by the covers.

Mister X was the 80s (though it had revivals in later decades).

And yeah, just go in blind.

Oh ok. To be fair some of that stuff I mentioned was also in the 80's as well. Those covers reminded me of They Might Be Giants and Peter Gabriel music videos. Real cool shit.
Alright I'll try to find time to read it. Sounds good.
Also man Cardy covers are so good.

I'm going to post some Go-Man stuff since Mister X was so cool. Reminded me of it.
Started in NERVE Magazine and then got its own short lived series. A very interesting comic filled with a cyberpunk setting, maybe a Ditko-esque art style imo, and interesting layouts.

I know very little about the creator, Bill Widener. It may have been his only work.
Matt Wagner of Grendel fame drew this cover and spoke highly of it in a paragraph inside.

Go-Man is probably inspired greatly by Max Headroom. When you read it, you'll see what I mean. Also a hero who just busts in to say "relax" to a crazed gunman is cool. He also talks to TV reporters and has a bunch of fans. What a goddamn chad. His backstory is also pretty interesting.

This is the final chapter in this comic. It ends pretty abruptly unfortunately. Not entirely sure what I posted is everything and the places I can find scans, I am not entirely sure of the ending being what it is. But I think it appears to end abruptly.

Btw if you can't parse the visual noise, that's Caliber Presents issue 23. Pic rel is issue 24 also drawn by Bill Widener.
Guess who is credited on MyComicShop as having written a story for pic rel and issue 23? One clue is that he is a writer we all know.
THE WRITER?
Yes, the writer.
BENDIS, THE WRITER
Anyway, I enjoyed this character and the setting. I feel like he could be transplanted and used today to great effect. I'm thinking Strange Brain Parts should do a video on this series/character.

Also I looked into the masthead logo destruction trope and I found this article.

Will Eisner I guess started it when he was doing lots of creative stuff with his logos for The Spirit. Batman 194 was the first mainstream thing to ape it and then the Hulk Steranko cover and the Iron Man issue 7 cover I posted came soon after.
Dunno if there's anything before Eisner.

Are Amanda Waller, Monica Rambeau, Storm, Vixen, Nubia (the black amazon right?), and Misty Knight the black women /co/ are willing to tolerate in comics? I struggle to think of any others. Shuri exists but I don't think she has much of a character from what I heard.
Anyway, this cover is great because of how immediate it generates intrigue and establishes Amanda's character and a cool interaction.

Or that Mad Mod was actually a relevant villain when he was first created. I always thought he was made by the 03 team as a visual character to hearken back to a time the teens have no familiarity with as a joke. But I guess that's normal for an 03 kid like me who didn't even really know about Donna, Speedy, Garth, or Wally being in the OG team.

Anonymous No.149753666 [Report]

Lobo is about edgy shit in the context of 90's political correctness. So it isn't too conservative or liberal. I would say it is mostly a joke series from my understanding. I have only read the miniseries and some of the standalones like that Christmas special. The 64 series I haven't read.
He started in Omega Men as a generic bounty hunter but then in Justice League International and L.E.G.I.O.N. he starts to morph into the Lobo you know. He also fights Superman I think once or twice in some of his titles. The miniseries is where you can easily start with the Lobo you know.
Anyway, why is he smiling? Hmm...

I feel like writers nowadays just need to understand Superman and FF are the way they are because they are simply exploring the limits of Sci-fi and not much else besides that and their unique characters and backgrounds.
Writers just have either less imagination or less room to come up with new Sci-fi ideas.

I wouldn't mind them if they had more restraint but what we ended up with is a lot of covers that often don't have anything to do with the series drawn by an artist out of the pay range of actually do a proper comic and over charged and crammed down retailers necks.
