It's been about 3 years since DC tragically lost Bendis.

It is amazing how much damage him and King managed to do to DC in such a short time.

worst thing is that everybody knew Bendis would fuck DC up, but DC just plugged their ears

>DC just plugged their ears

Let's say who it is who did it. Dan Didio.

Dan fucking Didio gave Bendis a $500k-a-year contract because he thought other top writers would join DC purely because Bendis is there and that's the sign of a classy comic company or something. It was madness.
Nobody has damaged DC more than Didio did and it was crazy how long it took for them to get rid of him.

>Nobody has damaged DC more than Didio did and it was crazy how long it took for them to get rid of him.

I think it's because nobody was available or was interested in taking Didio's job, and also that despite all the blunders and fuck-ups under Didio there was usually something he could point to that was successful. Like 2010s fuck-ups like Cry For Justice, people forgot because the New 52 was a brief success. New 52 fuck-ups were sidestepped because Snyder and Capullo's Batman was doing well.

Bendis Superman/Legion/etc and Heroes In Crisis didn't have anything to soften the blow. He had 5G in the plans but people now saw what happened to the New 52 under his watch.

Wasn't he fired for 5G? Or was he asking for a pay raise from his bosses in WB and they canned him to save money?

Nothing's really been officially confirmed, but Rich claims that Didio was fired for creating a poor work environment.

Bendis may have had name value in...2005 (and even then he was responsible for Disassembled) but his shit stories and meme'd dialogue have basically tanked any good will he had with readers. It's baffling DC thought bringing him over to immediately shit up Superman and his companion books, books people were enjoying at the time, would make any sort of dent
Maybe it's as >>149754097
says and it was more a play to appeal to writers over readers, but that obviously didn't play out well either

>Superman got his secret identity back
>Fortress of Solitude went back in the Arctic
>Kandor and its citizens got revived
>Classic Legion of Super-Heroes is mostly back
>Jor-El went back to being portrayed as a good guy
Most of what he did in Superman has been reversed at this point, really all that's left is aged up Jon, the United Planets, and I guess Rogol Zaar being the reason Krypton was destroyed.
That last one I'm not sure if it's even canon since they just simply haven't really acknowledged the character again, but if they ever want to bring up Krypton's destruction again, I really doubt they'll attribute it to Bendis's OC.

It's because they saw how well Ultimate Spider-Man did and that he also created Miles and thought that he could do that for them

WB would look and go "Oh, this is the guy who was on the Creative Committee of the MCU" and think this would be a good idea because now they think they have someone instead of Snyder or Johns to ask for advice, even though they should've done better research. It's kind of like when they signed a contract with JJ Abrams even though there were rumors of Rise of Skywalker having problems.

I can't imagine Rogol Zaar fitting into DC's vision for Krypton's destruction anymore, specially since it's such a stupid retcon and it paints Jor-El himself as the actual culprit behinds its destruction.
I seriously had no idea one of the last things Bendis did with the character was revealing that Jor-El created him... somehow. I really thought he was just some evil alien guy instead of Jor's crazy science experiment.

Levitz and Nelson loved Didio for some reason, refused to let him leave.

>But yeah, I've had a couple of exit plans at DC. There's about three or four times I thought I'd be out of there, to be honest with you.

>Nrama: What was another time?

>DiDio: There was a point that was a low point in my personal and professional life, at the end of 2007 and beginning of 2008, when we finished Countdown and 52 and we were struggling with other ideas. I felt that I was trying harder and accomplishing less. I had this incredible fear of repeating myself.

>And there was an opportunity that came up back in animation that really caught my interest. I started to circle that a little bit. Ultimately, it did not pan out, and I didn't burn bridges. The good part was that I was able to reinvigorate myself in the DC job. Paul gave me a shot of validation at the time I probably needed it the most, which I'll always be eternally grateful for. Then, we're into 'Blackest Night,' and off to the races again.

>The other time was [in 2009] when Diane Nelson and Jeff Robinov came in [and restructured DC Comics into DC Entertainment]. I thought that anybody who was involved in the previous regime would probably leave once they made their changes. When I sat down with Diane and Jeff, I wasn't giving them a speech to keep me, I was giving them an exit interview on what they need to do to fix the place in the restructuring.

>Lo and behold, Diane then offers me the co-publishing position. [laughs] Go figure that one out. Twice, these promotions came when I thought I was leaving. [laughs]

Bullshit. He'd been doing that for over a decade and a half, he would've been canned LOOOOOOOONG ago if that was the reason.
He was demanding everyone insert more rape and murder the moment he became EiC in the mid-00s, cheering through the offices about how he managed to get rape into a mainstream event. Then there's how he allowed a whole bunch of incompetents who ran Marvel into the ground during the 90s get high positions in the company when the New 52 caused a creative leadership shuffle. And also the New 52 itself being a completely disorganized mess of continuity disregard.
Also Countdown and Gay For Justice.

I had no idea he was still in the business. You'd think someone on /co/ would try to meme his new shit even if only for trolling.

What a couple of stupid fucking morons. I can see why the hate for Nelson now.
