Homestuck is his Magnum Opus. But it's also had an ending so shitty it retroactively ruined the series (and fandom) so bad he had to kill the community forum.

He writes an epilogue where he tries to be 2deep4u and panders to the fandom's gender identity obsession a bit and goes off the rails with half the cast for no reason. He doesn't like the fan reaction and tries to sell the franchise then sets up, by actual fucking contract, unnegotiable requirements for any sequel webcomics that deliberately sabotage the LIVING SHIT out of the franchise, ruining several characters or literally having their offspring's be half dogs furries called "yiffy". while (recently discovered) secretly owning the franchise and comics again.

Eventually someone compiled all the shit that happened during this years long crash out (Gio aka the guy who runs (ran) the unofficial homestuck) and he never forgave them, and today we find he was literally playing a long con to deplatform their fandom projects.

Since the comic ended every couple years he pulls a bunch of spite stunts like this and ruins his reputation with the fandom a little more. The fact that all his protégés that ditched him went on to becomes successful, and one an actual videogames superstar, has only made him spiral harder.

Gio is one of the heads of the archive project. They're a long-known critic of Hussie, especially when Sarah Z made videos detailing Hussie's mismanagement of the kickstarter funds, which Hussie then tried to suppress. Gio was willing to work with Hussie on managing the archive, but then Hussie started wrapping up the other members of the archive project in NDA strings because he couldn't attack Gio directly, as hostage-taking to get Gio to acquiesce. Hussie carries grudges for years. The only solution in the end was for Gio to take down the archive project since it had gotten mired up in too much red tape.

And if Hussie seriously wanted there to be a way for new people to read Homestuck it would be available on the official website. That website has been down for years, and while it's up now, no story has images anymore. They're all broken.

Yes hussie definitely hates homestuck and wants it gone forever, there's definitely no bad faith stuff going on here on gio's part.

First off, both the HICU-owned fork of the UHC and gio's original are still up on github. Nothing was "taken down", Gio just chose to edit the site he personally owns.

I've heard rumors about things behind the scenes, but even just reading his own article it sure seems like this person was asked to sign a few (STANDARD FOR THE COMPANY EMPLOYEES) NDAs and get vetted by a few of the staff, as well as ensure HICU has control over their/Hussie's IP (the comic assets and stuff). It's a bit complicated because the collection consists of a combination of their assets and the app itself that Gio currently maintains (he wasn't the original creator of the Collection, he just took the project over at some point after the 1.0 release) and thus has legal rights to, but it sure seems like they were happy to compromise and leave it up as long as they maintained control over the comic assets that, again, Hussie unambiguously owned. Gio seemed to dig his heels in and utterly refuse any forms that could remotely in any possible universe threaten "his creation", so HICU said "alright man, we tried, but if you're not gonna meet us halfway you can't work with us. take it down, we'll maintain our own project from here out."

I completely buy that the HICU team are difficult to work with and outright hostile at times, but imo the actual facts of the situation along don't really paint him as a victim so much as a stubborn jackass mad that Hussie is taking their toy back home after loaning it out for a while.

To be clear, this isn't meaningfully a fan work in the creative sense. This is precisely the original comic, packaged up into a new form for reliable archival. It's not a fanfiction of a book, it's the book itself republished in pamphlet form because the original is out of print and hard to find.

I think between UTDR and HICU is that one is sincere and the other isn't. Sure the clowns at HICU think what they're doing is actually in good faith but it's not, the HS2 project has been and always will be made from the obligation of making money. I read it and went "Wow, so he and I really are the *exact* same type of person, and if I want a way out of what I'm dealing with, I need to figure out exactly what that means and why he did this". Homestuck was the first piece of media I really felt understood and creatively satisfied by outside of my own art, and I always felt he and I were similar, but I was too young and unassertive to push that to full realization. The fact that he released it as a self-confessed message in a bottle containing his supposed final word on everything that's happened was extremely harrowing at first, but seeing his fandom completely reject it and watching him continue public activity online has given me more hope. I continue to pore over it from time to time in hope that I can extract some form of meaning that isn't obvious on the surface. Also, I do like the pixel art and the final chapter's art especially.

Homestuck ended in 2016.
In 2019, Hussie with the help of a few other authors released The Homestuck Epilogues, a sort of thematic end to some of Homestuck's themes but also the beginning of a whole new sequel next generation story.
This is followed up by Homestuck^2 in late 2019, a comic sequel following the epilogue story. After some issues with the franchise, the comic goes on indefinite hiatus in 2021.
Meanwhile, Flash died, which causes the comic to be unreadable on the official website. So two guys, Gioh and Bambosh, make The Unofficial Homestuck Collection, a downloadable app that acts as a virtual browser that you can read homestuck in as well as a lot of other homestuck-related things like the Paradox Space Comics, the Epilogues and others. It's the best way to read the comic and is necessary since due to neglect, the actual website deteriorated into being completely useless (not fixed to this day)
2023 the sequel comic returned, rebranded as Homestuck Beyond Canon, which has been running to this day. This came with the concept of the Homestuck Independant Creative Union, basically an organisation that has been given the rights to Homestuck and can now distribute it to other projects, allowing them to be monetized (which includes Beyond Canon as well as fan comics like Vast Error and other projects) without Hussie's involvement.
Yesterday, Gioh released a statement exposing the truth behind the HICU. According to him, it's the exact opposite of what we were told, that being that Hussie IS involved and uses legal threats and NDAs to demand changes and blackmail people into doing what he wants. Basically, the future of the Unofficial Homestuck Collection (the only way to read the comic right now) is up in the air and it's a huge controversy with Hussie and his already bad history with legal stuff. We're still waiting for an official statement but multiple people who work with the HICU have argued against it

Like with any next generation stories, people get upset because their favorite ship doesn't stay together or this and that is different.
