These fandoms have their roots in the deviant and grotesque. Of course they love garbage. Real art that isn't simply porn fuel is too meaningful for them to enjoy. None of them actually give a fuck about story. All that matters is that they can get off to demons. If anyone in those cared about story, they wouldn't be enjoying such badly written ones as if they are high fiction.

Homestuck got big literally when Gen Z started to use the internet en masse. It's probably THE prototypical Gen Z internet fandom.

>Why does the worst content imaginable be the ones that get fanbases?
As a Sonic fan, I have observed that it seems to come from interesting character designs and self-insert potential. And it's kind of true
>Sonic
>Undertale
>Homestuck
>Hazbin
>Steven Universe
>Star Wars
>fuckin...Thomas the Tank Engine, even
All of these have ways to make "sonas" and twist the very simple one-note characters into something of your own.

Homestuck was like right at the cusp of when Zoomers started to become a major force on the internet, the core original fanbase was basically a mix of late Millennials and early Zoomers. As time's gone on that became more and more dominated by Zoomers as they became both a larger presence on the internet, Homestuck became more famous, and quite frankly it appealed to teens probably the hardest out of any demographic.

I’m early Gen Z and literally only know about Homestuck because /co/ millennials won’t shut the fuck up about it, I would have never heard of it otherwise
Homestuck is objectively only followed by millennials, which is why this board is so up about this and it’s trending no where else. Zero zoomers know about Homestuck unless really deep in comics

completely wrong. If youre "early genz" like you say, youd know the first half of the 2010s, when zoomers were first getting onto the internet in places like youtube and tumblr, were full of homestuck shit.

4chan’s age range has shifted upwards as less alpha and late zoomers use the internet and use TikTok and social media instead. So yes, a lot of people in their 30s sticking around on 4chan

You are right, but the oldest zoomer was not even 13 yet, most were elementary kids or even before. Homestuck peaked when millennials were the only audience who would read something of this scope

Homestuck popped off the biggest in 2013, right when genz was starting to hit middle school. Even though Homestuck was aimed at millenial tgwtg posters it caught on with kids who were young enough to need to check the dictionary for half the words used because of its character designs, and later ships

Can't speak for whatever your OP image is, but I've noticed the shows with the highest chances of getting some kind of autistic fanbase the size of the moon are the shows that have some aspect of a "baseline thing" to branch content off of.
This can be as simple as locations that are mentioned (but unexplored by the main cast), to something more like MLP where anyone can shit out an OC by recoloring a pony or two due to the show's simple artstyle.
Sonic's got recolors and "Mobians", Steven Universe had a gazillion types of gems for people to make fan-content with, Pokemon's got a thousand Pokemon to impose personalities and hairstyles on.
Going with the assumption that your pic is something Homestuck related, that fits too since you've got both the trolls and the, uh, human character aspect things to build off of, whatever the fuck they're called (I liked Problem Sleuth, couldn't get into Homestuck.)

Since most "worst content imaginable" ends up half-baked, people have lots of room to do shit like make idealized OCs, "improved" canon fan-content, and so on.
