ITT: Episodes that would be hated if they came later in a series
Post episodes you think would be hated if they were made later in a show's lifespan.
>Secrets of a Successful Marriage
>Marge kicks Homer out for sharing private details about their marriage
>Homer later begs Marge to have him back stating that the only thing he can offer to her is his complete and utter dependency
>This is the resolution to the episode and Marge takes him back
It's obviously satirizing sitcom cliches but if this was a post-season 9 episode I feel people would treat it like an example of Homer's character regressing.

why do you feel that way?

Well, that's because this episode was made the writers were still good. Any of the modern writers could ruin the even the classic ones.

Just the way Homer acts and how it's resolved in a pretty depressing way makes me think Simpsons autists would have hated it if it wasn't a golden age episode.

The fact of the matter is that even if he's an idiot Homer is the one making cash while Marge is the parasite. Realistically speaking of this wasn't a shitty comedy Homer would be kicking Marge out for acting like an annoying dumb bitch.

Really hate the cliche of Non Working Wife inexplicably is able to pay the bills. That kind of shit doesn't even work in fiction.

>Homer Goes to College
22 minutes of Jerkass Homer from start to finish

Any episode of Homer and Marge's shitty marriage are awful on the basis that no matter how you present it Marge is the Do Nothing Leech. And another thing I really resent is Marge pretending that she's a good parent when the only person who disciplines Bart is Homer. Marge openly chooses to ignore what a troublemaker sack of shit Bart is and repeatedly quits on him than ever admit she's the shit mother. Bart is going to grow up to be a failure but that can be blamed on Marge since she blatantly refuses to try to discipline her son. Homer at least wrongfully tries to strangle Bart. At least that gives Bart a sense of fear. Marge? She would excuse Bart being a serial killer.

Have never liked that horrible episode. Never liked episodes about college anything but this was especially unfunny.

Homer's Babershop Quartet. We have to somehow take in that Homer was a successful singing celebrity despite no one in town ever treating him special over that? That episode was honestly too stupid.

Even worse later on during the bad seasons they repeated this cliche about Homer being a successful singing celebrity for a grunge band.

I mean that was basically just a paper-thin excuse for a Beatles parody episode.

Bait aside, can we agree that all of this "marriage on the rocks" episodes were ALL horribly and unfairly one sided? Particularly the Simpsons ones?

I. NEVER. liked any of these. And yes, the show had a sorta of a "women never wrong" unspoken rule.

Also Al Jean apparently had a fetish for writing this episodes.

I don't think the modern writers would have given us lines like:
>ah, your flesh mother used to bring me pudding

As if Marge was any better? Even in the "Texas homer" episode it was Marge who started the whole fucking mess and her defiant attitude didn't help, and we wasn't the point of the episode that homer was so innocently stupid he didn't even know that the other girl was clearly into him and he just saw it as a business chance that he liked, hell when he finally put 2 and 2 together he could not accept that girl.

Without as many incidental good jokes, "Lisa vs. Malibu Stacy" and "Mother Simpson" would (correctly) be deemed lefist propaganda.

The entire resolution is that Homer realizes that he needs Marge and Marge needs him. It's already been established by then that Marge loves him for the fact he literally is an autistic who is capable of putting her first likeh e does his random special interests and she needs him as something to control to keep her grounded due to her abandonment issues/daddy issues

Have you tried looking up how they actually reacted to the episode? The Simpsons nerds back then were still very particular, the whole golden age thing is more modern

It's fucking Homer, they'd always be one-sided because frankly the ways Marge could create conflict that are in character wouldn't be as interesting.

Mother Simpson in particular pisses me off. Homer's mother abandoned him for no good reason. And no hippie bullshit especially since she slut around cheating on Abe makes her look awful. And before anyone says Abe cheated, not as much as Homer's Mother since being a hippie means she had lots of out of wedlock sex. Homer's Mother will always look worse by comparison.

Homer's Mother being presented as loving and caring was simply infuriating trash. Pure karma that Homer ends up working for Mr. Burns. If only Homer wasn't stupid he would be written to spitefully work for Burns simply to offend his shitty deadbeat mother.

Homer has always been kind of a jerkass. Like that episode where he fantasized about Flanders being stuck in his house while it burns down. It's just the level was amped to an extreme after a certain point, and he started being an asshole towards his family too, when he used to have a soft spot for them (aside from strangling Bart of course)

The episode has good jokes and is very quotable.
