Because it's another adult animation that's only adult in its humor. That alone isn't much of a sin, but add on to the fact it's the direct work of Genndy Tartakovsky just gives it this sense of wasted potential. Seth Rogan and Seth Green can put out as many dirty adult animations as they want, but everyone was expecting something different, something exciting from Tartakovsky when we heard he was finally making a full fledged adult animated movie. Samurai Jack, the 03 Clone Wars cartoon both had this unique, brutal action that's rarely seen in western adult animations and everyone wanted to see what he'd do without those restrictions.

The elephant in the room that nobody is addressing is that Fixed is a show that very much wants to look nice while also being gross, which is almost unheard of in the US. Europe and Japan do this all the time, the odd one out is the states because its the most puritan country on earth.
Whenever somebody does raunchy adult comedy, particularly something on Adult Swim, they purposely make it look like snot and boogers so that you don't accidentally become charmed by it, they're made to be laughed at and thrown away.
It takes balls to do a cutesy style in murrica because lots of people will clutch their pearls and see it as a fetish. It's actually quite based when you think that, this is what true counter culture looks like.

Its really nothing more than the most basic bitch 'adult' comedy you would expect from a stoner. Its biggest issue is that Tartakovsky's name is on it. When you see him, you expect high quality work and serious topics. To see him doing this full on animal orgy shit is embarrassing. Hell, I think the idea could have worked. A story about a dog trying to enjoy his last night out before the snip. In a normal Gennedy story, the dog would end up saving someones life by making a choice between helping and being caught, or ignoring them and running free. But This, its just.. bland and over the top for all the wrong reasons.
the comparisons to sausage party are apt. Decent idea absolutely shit execution.

The plot was functionally sound, hitting all the beats, but it was bogged down with its compulsion to prove every minute that this is adult. It had already earned its R-rating with the sex scenes and balls. Defenders are right to say an adult comedy doesn't need heavy, mature themes like Fritz The Cat, but half the swears could've been swapped with more visual gags or characterization. The weed scene probably existed as an excuse for Genndy and Scott Wills to get visually experimental, only it didn't go far enough, so it just came across as another "we have this R-rating, let's put drugs in there". During the 14 years Genndy spent trying to sell this, I would've expected him to plan each sequence to perfection, rather than merely indulge in being "for adults" with jokes that felt peppered in at the last moment. It's the parts everyone seems to be mad at that hold up the movie, like the gay rape, because that's when it's being original and therefore memorable with its humor.

Because the movie feels like if someone heard about what Fritz the Cat was without having actually seen Fritz the Cat and just did nothing but make it a bunch of raunchy "adult" (teen) comedy without actually having anything to say. The Genndy hate started with season 5 of Samurai Jack. Since then one anon had been making daily threads shitting on him. Primal season one redeemed Genndy in the eyes of anons but then season 2 happened and it went back down and kept going down. /co/ is very much a "what have you done for me lately" kind of board.

Perhaps this is just my bias speaking, but I think the localized cussing unironically enhances the dialogue in both versions, if only because the use of synonyms and slang makes it feels a tad more varied and less repetitive (for ESLs at least, "fuck" and "shit" get a bit old after the 10th time you hear them).

Also, nothing personal against Adam DeVine, but I found Bull's riffing in Spanish to be somewhat less grating and long-winded. Again, I might simply be biased, but I don't really struggle to get most jokes and swears in English, so I don't think it's simply a case of them being "lost in translation".

There's actively targeted schizos in this board, and the animation community at large is immature. Just alongside this thread I saw this one, as an example. They're unable to go "this isn't my cup of tea" or even "wow that's a bad movie" and move on, they latch on, and have latched on to Genndy for a few years now. Genuinely saw people the last thread going "GENNDY HAS SET ANIMATION BACK DECADES", not ironically. Be it because they're jealous industry professionals, genuine schizoids, or just /v/-tier addicts wanting their next TORtanic and Todd Howard, it means they're unable to see someone make good animation with shit writing, go "that's good animation with shit writing, I'll take appreciation for the good animation and none for the shit writing", and move on with their lives. I don't know, but I've worked on a 3D production that had the same pipeline (animation shots are reviewed, notes given) but I didn't participate in that part of as a board artist. They use the same website though, so I wonder if it's more standard to do things that way. If there was any competition at all I feel like what you said could play a part but like you're also working on a movie alongside veteran animators and well known people and there's probably some expectation of quality there too.
