>next movie has Superman teaming up with the evil billionaire
What did James Gunn mean by this?

Why do DC projects always end up having Lex take over as MC? The DCAU ended up making lex the main character by the end of it too

Because when written well he's the most kino.

Gunn's Lex is written like a child so it'll take a lot of character growth for Gunn to pull this off.

I think it's been set up great for Lex. The movie sets him up at his absolute worst, just petty and evil in a cartoonish way, but then it also drops him to the lowest point of his life, having lost absolutely everything. That's like the perfect starting point for a character arc.

Besides being upset at Supes for foiling his various plans, one common aspect of Lex is an inferiority complex to Supes. It makes sense that at some point he realizes he can't kill Supes and the best thing to do is become a better hero and overshadow Supes. Whether he stays a hero or slides back to villainy is another story.

A lot of people assumed that the Jor-El and Lara video was doctored due to that weird glitch in the video were some already theorized that was supposed to hint at Brainiac.

Injustice 2 also used Brainiac as a "greater threat" excuse to force Insurgency Batman and Regime Superman to team up again despite hating each others' guts since the entire Earth/Human existence was at stake.

Good point, but as with all ideas it ultimately comes down to the execution.

And with films the directing and writing are just as crucial as the acting to pull it off decently.

Lex was not written any better in JL/JLU than anyone else who was treated as an MC by the end. Wally was a joke at the start but by the second and third season he got as many episodes to shine as anyone else, including some crucial moments, such as the 'no one could anticipate you,' "got me again, Flash' and the 'I could never go that fast again' ones. The only characters that were consistently under-served were Superman and to a lesser extent Diana and Shayera - yes, they got some BAMF moments, but they also served as window dressing for the Batgod and for John Stewart. And some characters never got anything (e.g. Martian Manhunter).

>>150315326
They don't. Smallville didn't. Lois and Clark didn't - in fact they got rid of him completely after the second season. He was in the Superboy syndicated series but barely lasted in a few episodes into the second season and wasn't that much of a focal point in the first. He didn't show up on Supergirl or Superman & Lois until nearly the end of each series, and is barely there in MAWS, etc. etc.

Lex is better suited for being the main character due to his emotional immaturity. KM Weiland's books on writing (arguably the only worthwhile ones you should read) cover this in more detail, but all character arcs fall under three categories.

>Flat Character Arcs: this is usually reserved for the Classic Hero of the story (think old hero pulps, the story of Jesus, or classic Silver/Golden Age comics) who undergoes minimal character development. A Flat Character is emotionally mature and self-actualized. Think Captain America, Optimus Prime, etc.
>Negative Change Arcs: Think of literature like Dorian Gray, Faust, American Psycho, etc - the main character either starts off as emotionally immature and gets worse through egocentric selfishness (Fall Arc), having their ideology and perspective warped and turned against them (Corruption Arc), or survives the conflict but becomes broken/damaged (Disillusionment),
>Positive Change Arcs: for hero pulps and old capeshit, this was reserved for the supporting cast or sidekick/audience surrogate - this character is emotionally immature and holds a false belief (Lie) about the world/others/themselves that aligns with what they Want, and has to discover what they Need (which aligns with the Truth).

Superman can't be the main character for a long-term narrative because he's only suited for short-term narratives that have him develop minimally, true to his Flat Arc nature. He shines best in these one-offs and standalone stories.

Superman is a good Hero because he's akin to Jesus, Flash Gordon/Buck Rogers, Tarzan, Doc Savage (and many other characters that inspired him) in the sense that he acts as the most positively human, the purest man in the room. He may not be perfect (he can falter and fuck up), but even in his vulnerablities, his maturity exceeds that of everyone else. If you make Superman into the main character of a traditional narrative (instead of Lois/Lex/Jimmy), you risk losing what makes him beautiful.

My guess is that by the end of the movie, Luthor gets the credit for taking down the villain of the movie, gaining the epithet "Man of Tomorrow" instead of Superman. He uses this momentum to run for President.
In the next movie, Lex uses his political power and influence to take out Lord Tech and abolish The Justice Gang. He then proceeds to build his own team of metahumans to do a bunch of dirty work for him and uses his Presidential power to cover up any misdeeds done by the team.
The name and the title of the movie being one and the same: The Authority.
Anonymous No.150322389 [Report]
This is just going to be a retelling of the recent arc where they team up and fight Brainiac except Lex will turn on him at the end instead of getting brain drained

You could do Brainiac, he hasn't been done on the big screen before.
You could also do Mongul and War World.
You could do Hank Henshaw/Cyborg Superman in a single film, I think, but that's probably be too complicated/too tied to death and return.
There's Imperex, who I'm not too familiar with, but I think that could work, and the Justice League is gonna be in the movie.
You could also do the Mageddon run from JLA but more superman focused (A shaggy man general Eiling would be tight.)
I also think that there is a way to do Morgan Edge and Intergang but they'd have to do it in a way that Darkseid isn't the secret end boss because I don't think the new gods will ever work outside of Kirby's stuff.

What i'd like is Metallo as the first half of the movie villain, brainiac as actual villain
(John Corben as a criminal who gets caught by superman in the opening scene, gets upgraded by a mysterious benefactor, benefactor turns out to be Brainiac.)

gunn's lex isnt written like a child, he's written like a guy who's so self-assured that he doesnt comprehend how capital-E evil he is. this is both a good and bad thing because on the one hand he's a generic saturday morning villain and on the other hand gunn's immediately launched him into a narrative place where, given real world events and regardless of where you stand on them, he's too crass to really want to cheer for. imagine if doc ock personally orchestrated 9/11 so that he could get long island in the aftermath. if the boravia/jarhanpur conflict was dropped from the movie gunn's lex would be a pretty standard if bland depiction of lex but no he just had to put his hibernian fucking stink on it. i hate james gunn so fucking much, he is one of the most boring fucking writers on the planet and creature commandos was a fucking was of both nina and gogol bordello. fucking butchered nearly every needle drop

anyway man of tomorrow is going to suck mostly because gunn will try making the homoerotic undertones into overtones by having lex call supes a fag in a cape or some other toothless attempt at subversiveness
