You thought they were gonna stop with the unnecessary sequels at Toy Story 5?
Honestly if they want to continue this franchise they should just make spinoffs that can easily be ignored rather than shitting on Toy Story 3s perfect ending.

The only singular way to make this stop is to make this film bomb. It needs to have an Elio level bomb to make it end the series.
But it will not. It will make a billion and we will get Toy Story 6 and 7. Because like live action Stitch, it has characters you like, and you must consoom them. And you are too much of cattle to break out of that programming.

If Pixar wants to milk the franchise, maybe instead of going the spinoff route, why not got a prequel route instead? The only Pixar prequel we’ve ever gotten was Monsters University, which I feel is the most underrated Pixar film IMO, I liked how it actually had a mature message about how you’re not always gonna achieve your life dream unlike going for a message that’s sappy and childish like any other modern Pixar film.

Anniversary re-releases will continue playing in cinemas, children will continue dressing up as the characters, parade floats will continue soaring on national television, and these characters from a bygone window in time will continue keeping the lights on at Pixar. I'm more offended by that Coco 2 announcement.

A film all about how our loved ones who've passed away can be kept alive in our memories should be the LEAST appropriate to wring a sequel out of. Mirroring the film's message, we can always rewatch it and make fanart and dress up as the characters to keep the story and the characters and the music alive decades later. A sequel is grossly unnecessary, and I can't believe Lee Unkrich went out of retirement for this.

Lasseter apparently hated Star Command and I suspect while he was still at Pixar he had enough leverage to prevent Disney TVA from doing anything with Pixar IPs after that. Since he left Pixar they've done Monsters at Work and now they've got a preschool Cars show in production, so a Woody's Roundup show would be better late than never I say. Wouldn't have the same visual soul as if it was made around the same time as Star Command was, though.

To me the Golden age ended with Incredibles. My dissatisfaction started with Cars since if found it to be such a stupid concept even as a 9 year old. The movies comming after and leading up to TS3 were alright but that was when the flavor of Pixar's forced emotional energy started to become more noticeable and it aged the older I got, but I still think TS3 was the last good Pixar movie. Then I got disappointed with Brave, Monster's University, and Inside out by all the wasted potential (although in hindsight I judged MU too harshly). Finding Dory was the first and last Pixar movie I watched that made me feel bored by just watching the movie.

The real problem with "Toy Story 5" is that it's just more "Woody needs to learn to let go of something" and "Buzz Lightyear thinks he's a toy". There are no new stories, it's just the same story over and over again with the same tired jokes. The concept is fine, it needs new characters and new ideas but Disney would never allow that or worse fuck it up.

That's a good point. Pixar's earliest, most iconic works all had that perspective for their protagonist. Woody with the toys/Andy, Sulley with Boo, Marlin with his literal son, Bob as the family patriarch.

I still love Coco, Luca, and Turning Red, though, and while Brave From The Perspective of The Queen is a neat idea in theory, I still think the film works best as a coming-of-age story, especially since Merida & Elinor's shared screen time allows for the audience to see both their views change over the course of that adventure https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XT3gSBCZjNc

Toy Story lasted as a series of movies due to its novelty. The first CG animated film. That is its claim to fame.

But the actual concept of Toy Story itself? No one cares about What If Toys Are Inexplicably Alive. Especially since toy sales started to die when Toy Story debuted thanks to the gaming industry. Toys as products started to lose popularity and Ben 10's franchise was the last time toy sales were good. But even that finally stopped.

So by now even less people give a damn about a movie centered on toys. And I'd argue that toys as characters aren't popular, Raggedy Anne's movie failed despite it belonging to a famous brand. Without that CG novelty Toy Story would have failed. And by now there is nothing unique about CG movies.

I hope Toy Story 5 finally fails and kills this overrated movie series.

Humans are stupid. And when you combine Human Stupidity with Nostalgia? There you go. Humans will gladly spend their money on familiar brands.

And fun fact about humans, they are so stupid they spent their money during the Great Depression watching movies and animated shorts. You see humans had little money and preferred spending on worthless things like movies and cartoons to lift their mood. I'm sorry but if I have little money during an economic depression I want to save the cash to survive. I'm not wasting my cash to see Disney's Snow White. Snow White doesn't pay my bills. Total female oriented movie. Only women like movies where their feelings are on the spotlight. And even if the movie had a male protagonist's feelings being explored its an uninteresting concept. Humans are just not wired the way Inside Out presents as such its too bullshit even for fiction. The concept none of it is appealing and none of it works.

And the thing about manchildren is that even they can get burned out. I can see Toy Story 5 under performing because there's only so much extension of someone's childhood that you can even do in real life before you truly feel like the old man that you physically are.

The Decline era is way too uneven to feel like a real decline. Toy Story 3 is amazing, Brave is good, Inside Out is great, Coco is great, and despite what some people want to say Monsters U is probably one the only good prequels ever made. I personally don't care for Cars but I know people do like Cars 2 and 3. So that just leaves The Good Dinosaur, Finding Dory, and Incredibles 2 as being pretty bad. Though Dory is more pointless and forgettable than outright bad.

I think /co/ still doesn't realize the average normgroid is not a critical person, they still view all animated movies as for kids, not even in a harmful way, but they do, so why bother preserving any artistic sanctity, in a Toy Story film?
AND THEY'RE RIGHT.
"Dude muh Hall of Cost analogy!" Wow amazing. This is the best story that western animation can offer.
Take off the nostalgia goggles, not every single movie needs to be treated with respect, some are meant to be fun for pay stories, only midwit redditors like Tarantino who think slop is art and therefore deserves the same degree of sanctity think this.

But it still sucks when yet another thing that was once well-handled turns into just more grist for the mill. The same studio that went from the 'embrace something new' Ratatouille speech is now dusting off the nearly 20-year-old idea Disney had previously used to threaten them because they need a sequel more than they need integrity, and that's discouraging on any level.

Ticket prices were more expensive even then, so you're charging less people more money. Also the success of a product is based on the lasting impact of its predecessor, so toy story 4's box office was really toy story 3's lasting power (coupled with marketing of course).
Also it was the highest grossing but not by much. It got like 5 Million more than 3 and 15 million less people bought tickets. 1.067B vs 1.074B gross revenue
Toy story 5 will be the true testing grounds for these unnecessary sequels and will show how people don't even remember 4

This honestly sounds like a perfect idea, make a whole series about the universe of Toy Story, there's tons of interesting worldbuilding opportunities that can be explored.

One of the reasons Toy Story is so loved by kids is because the idea of toys coming to life when they're not looking is a fun imaginative concept for them, they wouldn't care if there's no more Buzz or Woody.

Yeah, Andy's mother keeps telling him to grow up in 4 but he won't stop playing with his toys. So Woody and Buzz go on a quest to try to search a job for him.

TS is a franchise they could make sequals non stop of. And just restart the protag every few films. With the way the in universe logic works, they wouldn't have to get new actors and kids aren't going to care if Woody/Buzz are are with new owners or have different personalities.

Don't think I've had an interest in any Pixar movie since Toy Story 3 and looking at the line ups I've been seeing I don't think that's changing anytime soon.

I stopped with Monster University.
It just didn't feel right to be told by boomers it'll all work out even if you drop out of uni. I don't remember if the movie explained why they had allergy inducing children's toys given that children aren't contagious.

I was forced to watch Coco when minding some children and I couldn't help but think it was imparting bad morals (the badguy tells the kid he should do music against his mother's wishes... you're not supposed to have the solution to the conflict come from people of bad character) but the conflict itself was retarded already and inconsistent with Pixar's morals so I stopped caring. I had to pinch my leg to not cry at the granny.

I walked in on two people too old (and stupid) to be watching Toy Story 4. I sat and watched for about half an hour and just couldn't stand it before walking out. They enjoyed it thoroughly and offered me to watch a recording. I hate people.

I was going to watch Lightyear but the adverts were so boring I never felt motivated to go and see it. I'm glad I didn't. I still don't know what it's about other than a diverse cast of brown people and there's a lesbian couple in it or something.

The story is a prequel to a movie that was in an era were joining a trade was a plausible way to success. The prequel being set even earlier makes it even more plausible if we're to believe it's around 20-30 years prior.

The toys were entangled in poisonous stickers to make them "extra poisonous" iirc. In reality the reaction was purely the stickers but being mixed in with the toys the monsters could plausibly believe the toys were poisonous as well.

Cocco was okay.

TS4 is dogshit.

And Lightyear was about Buzz trying to escape a planet by using some sort of experimental warp engine that kept sending him further in time until he got to the point the people he knew died and gave up trying to leave and ended up settling and rebuilding their lives their. Zurg also shows up and is revealed to be Buzz from the future who wouldn't stop warp jumping to try and get home. Idk how it ends tough. I'm biased to hate it on principle for once again throwing the cartoon under the bus.
