ITT - post artists or animators that influence your work
I’m particularly inspired by artists that worked on shows like Ren & Stimpy and SpongeBob, people like Jim Smith, Stephen Destefano, Chris Reccardi, Aaron Springer, also Eddie Fitzgerald especially, I’m very fond of expressive animation, Bob Clampett, Jhonen Vasquez. and Pat Ventura were also big inspirations to me.

Rebeltaxis art is shit anon, it looks amateur as fuck, it’s clear he just takes influence from shit like Panty & Stocking and 2000’s video games without learning the basics in art like construction and appeal.

It’s like CN looked at it and said "no way we’re going to give this shit a full show, but might as well play it as filler."

Which is odd, because it was featured in promos from 1994, all of these shorts released in 1995. Same thing with Malcolm and Melvin.

It probably was never picked up cause it would've been kinda a bitch production wise, Ren & Stimpy already was quite expensive, and while CNs classic shows did look good, they didn't have animation on the level of it.

I really like the Soviet-era works of Kievnauchfilm where the animators used both paper puppets and animation cels for their films. Would be cool to see more shows use paper puppets aside from the absolute kindergarten-level travesty that is South Park.

Probably Lewis Trondheim, creator of Kaput and Zosky. The show and comic were a bit formulaic, but it was pretty charming and had a wonderful sense of style and surrealism. It probably has my favorite "generic space/sci-fi" style second only to Futurama, and I'm a big fan of its comfy simplicity. Also I'm a HUGE fan of characters with underbites and overbites.

(And no, I'm not that one guy who most people associate with this show when it's posted on this board, Birchy I think his name was.)

South Parks animation style was influenced by both Monty Pythons absurd cutout animations and Peanuts, it’s clear though that Matt and Trey were more writer guys and never planned on being animators in the first place.

Honestly thought South Parks early seasons had a charm to them with their crude paper cutout look and how clear they were trying to look stop motion, the artstyle gradually became less stylized over the years and their new seasons are lacking said charm.

My issue with the South Park style began after the style devolved from the original charm into the pseudo-realistic tripe. It's bizarre seeing the original characters who don't even have a proper walking animation co-existing with these relatively realistic-looking background characters and props. At least with the Kievnauchfilm paper puppets, the animators at least tried to animate the characters walking, with their Alice cartoons having a wonderful scene that has the paper cutout characters running in a 3D-appearing area. Hell, the animation for the paper cutout bits are great and show a great amount of care being put into animating everything (even if Alice looks...special).

Do you draw in a thickline UPA-like artstyle by any chance? Maybe that’s why? Normalfags tend to group stuff like Dexter and Powerpuff girls into the same exact style cause of this despite their stylistic differences.

Cy Young, Frenchy de Tremaudan, Jun Arai - Itsuki Imazaki, and Dino Ignacio.
Jun Arai hasn't worked on anything western to my knowledge, but Imazaki was one of the AEon Flux guys and their way of handling lustre is visual crack for me.
Cy Young was the Disney effects animator and handled a lot of technically impressive scenes. Frenchy was a guy who handled a lot of great background animation for some Mickey shorts.
Sadly, both of them are mostly forgotten and only Young has a Wikipedia page.
Dino Ignacio is an internet oldhead (see: Bert is Evil) who's done 2D and 3D stuff, but his Skyflakes music video has such an odd "2D designs in 3D" look that I really love.
