Sherk never needs to sacrifice anything to stay with Fiona
The only thing he needs to do in the first movie is open his heart to her. This was hard for him to do because most people hated him
Fiona letting herself be an ogre is symbolic of her feeling comfortable with herself instead of hiding this part of herself away. Kinda like how Sherk hid himself away from others. But this isn’t really Fiona, she’s only an ogre because she had a curse put on her. And even if she’s a tomboy, it’s not like she had reason to enjoy wanting to be an ogre in a swamp. Sherk just didn’t need to be an asshole
Sherk 2, Sherk and Fiona meet the parents and Sherk learns that Fiona was infatuated with Prince Charming, the man that was promised to her instead of him. Sherk becomes human so he can be the man she always dreamed about, but it turns out that was wrong to do and Sherk didn’t need to feel insecure because she always loved him for who he was. He didn’t need to sacrifice his identity. Fiona stays as an ogre to further establish his love for him
Sherk 3 is only where this idea that Sherk doesn’t need to much to keep him family gets jarring. He doesn’t want the responsibility of being the King, and he doesn’t want to be a dad. His arc with Arthur helps him understand that kids aren’t so bad and he shouldn’t be scared on being a dad. But he doesn’t stay king and bails out the responsibilities that go beyond being a swamp ogre with a swamp ogre family.
Sherk 4 is Sherk hates having a family so much that he wants to change the timeline…
On one hand Sherk is to be admired for wanting to just be an ogre in swamp, that’s the whole reason the first movie happens, but pretty much has to do the bare minimum for the things beyond that.
Fiona actually likes being an ogre for some reason so i guess this is okay, but why does she enjoy being an ogre in a swamp
