A large part of the decision seems to come down to how well the first wave of merch does and unfortunately KoG has some pretty shit merch. The princess is the only marketable character in the entire cast.

I agree. I was confused when they revealed the two girls were getting plush toys. KoG is one of those franchises that feels like it was made to bank on a single character and i don't know how long Princess Guinevere will be able to prop up the show n her own.
There's not a lot about her as a character people have to get invested in and the Disney spite crowd can only get one so far, especially when those people hardly put their money where their mouths are.
I also just looked up Princess Guinevere on Google, apparently it's the name of King Arthur's wife. I wonder if that's a coincidence or if the character is purposefully named after her and will have story implications, like how Caine is named after the first murderer from The Bible.

They’re about the size rooster teeth was when WB bought them. But they keep taking on new projects way too quickly when so far none of the non-digital circus stuff has been a success. I genuinely don’t see them lasting a full decade at this rate
