render farm costs would be identical, you're paying for the time using those machines rather than the production time animating them

if you want to render something privately - bearing in mind if it's illegal shit you're gonna get caught using someone else's machines - there are lots of places that'll do that for consumer-level costs, but if you wanted a feature-length 4k render you wouldn't use them, you'd use a commercial service

from fractions of a cent per GHz-hour, but how many frames you can produce per GHz-hour and how quickly you want them produced is the issue (as in, do you want the whole thing to be done asap, using every machine the farm has - big cost - or can you wait - small cost)

good luck booking a commercial render farm for a private project tho, you might get a spot in 2029 if you start now, maybe earlier if you've got files ready to render and someone cancels

also to anybody who thinks AI farms are free - they're working at a loss because they can afford to while they're getting big investment, but when that ends - and it always ends - they'll be unsustainable enterprises without massive user costs; we are not talking $49.99 per image here, we're talking most will be bust within a month

The ending always felt weird to me as a kid. I know it's a Halloween episode and meant to be unsettling, but something about Homer getting trapped in another universe was really scary to me.

PS3s were also sold at a lost at a certain time. The military took advantage of this and bought a bunch of them to build a supercomputer because that was just cheaper than buying the components normally. Keep in mind the US military is not known for being budget conscious.

keep in mind they're not just spending on hardware, they have huge infrastructure costs too

nobody is ever going to be able to cover that without corporate welfare, the budgets necessary dwarf anything Uncle Sam will have laying around by then

I barely remember any actual good jokes from the segment but it's still one of the most memorable Simpsons segments because people love when cartoon animation does something unexpected.

CGI Homer is well remembered. The highest rated Family Guy episode is the one where they try to imitate Disney animation. A large part of why people like Smiling Friends is because you have no idea what the animation will do so they might randomly do claymation or rotoscoping or even fucking puppetry based on a fairly obscure 1980s British TV show. People LIKE to be surprised.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if a random Smiling Friends scene was made to look like a scene from a Studio Ghibli film and they wasted like half the entire season's animation budget on it.

It's supposed to be Satsuki, but I'm guessing her final design changed. Satsuki doesn't have pigtails in the movie, but Mei does. Also, she's supposed to be carrying Mei on her back in that scene.

That's the notable thing about it, yes. The girl in the poster seems to be both girls in the movie merged together. Saw some post on plebbit going "oh the movie originally only had one girl then Miyazaki divided her in two" but I've no idea if that's bullshit or not
