My point is that people don't want to see Yugi instantly win by pulling out a single card. The entire appeal of the matchup is Yugi's summons vs Ash's pokemon, and that's what Death Battle is going to deliver on.
You can argue if that's unfair all you want, or how Yugi can totally win by using any of the 10000 spell cards that deal instant damage to Ash and then the pokecucks can retaliate with any of the 1000 pokemon that counter that one card; but the fight is far more interesting if Yugi is treated like a summoner supporting his monsters, and not as a wizard dominating the battlefield from on high, and that's how DB is going to run it.

Amusing they have to follow the rules of each of their games, Yugi might have a problem since he'd have to summon his monsters in defense position for Ashe's pokemon to not just ignore them and attack him directly.
Pokemon in the anime also have the advantage that they can dodge attacks, unlike yugioh summons.
And there's also the question of wether a pokemon counts as being in attack or dense position, both at the same time, or neither.
And if they have to follow the rules, would Ash have to stick to attacking monsters, since he's not allowed to attack the opponent "trainer"?
