Vox is certainly the standout character of this season. All the best songs
Charlie has went off the rails, vaggie is being ignored and the rest are irrelevant.
Alastor is big also but right now Vox is the hotness.

It's based off of someone leaking a list of topics that reviewers were asked not to mention in their reviews to avoid spoilers. So far, the list has turned out to be correct. Ep 5. has some confrontation between Lucifer and Vox that Lucifer loses, either literally or his actions push more Sinners to Vox's side. And then in episode 7 Vox hypnotizes Lucifer to use him to attack Heaven. So it's looking like

Sera's Confession > Gravity
You EXPECT something like Gravity from Lute, even if it's REALLY high quality, but Sera was such a fence sitter the whole 1st season that it's a treat they lock her into a path of resolute uncertainty.
Gravity is still probably gonna stay top 3-5 of the season though, but some songs that are given more credit beat it out.

She was always a bad protagonist. And Vox's worst trait is his television design. That hurts his appeal as a character be he antagonist or not. And speaking of Vox his motivation makes no sense. He says...

"We're the biggest fish in Hell"

During his song but he has other Overlords gunning after his territory. He's trapped in the Pride Ring and the Ars Goetia are stronger than him. And that's not even mentioning Lucifer. And yet he thinks he can beat God himself and steal his heavenly domain? The writing for this character is bad. His motivations are dumb and even worse Vox knows how to fight angels but we are half way through the season and Vox is not stealing angel weapons from Carmine. How can he fight even a cherub if he doesn't at least have one heaven knife? This writing gives me a headache.

IIRC vodoun doesn't have a hell either, but that doesn't stop Alastor.

So what's the running theory on Alastor's goals? We know he's trying to sneak away from his deal with Rosie and we know he will probably achieve it. But breaking a deal with Rosie who gave him power should also reset Alastor to a regular sinner not an overlord tier. The most I can see Alastor keeping is Husk and Nifty as his slaves but the power boost Rosie offered that's finished.

So what will Alastor do? He can't continue his fun anymore unless he wants other stronger characters gunning after him.

There's another current theory that, if some sinner gets stronger than Alastor, the deal is broken on Rosie's part and he's free while keeping the benefits, since she couldn't keep her part of the trade.
He'll obviously will be a villain eventually, can't get that if he's depowered, his deal itself is a conveniently easy way to keep him powerful and relevant even if soul deals are abolished

The infrastructure of Hell was actually shown to be Lilith. Lilith is the one who used her singing to influence and unite sinners to build their civilization within the pride ring. You could almost say Lilith used a Siren's Song to hypnotize sinners into uniting. I headcanon that hell was initially supposed to be what we think of it (the devils torturing souls forever, each soul getting the punishment for its sin, etc...) but somewhere along the line sinners found out about the power of deals and soul deals especially, got enough power to kill their jailers and that's why they got confined to the pride ring, where the most powerful guy in hell can look over them. Eventually they switched to bickering with heaven and got far enough to warrant the exterminations. All this supported by Lilith, with Lucifer knowing but disapproving and Charlie not knowing

I thought Lucifer created the Goetia, and since Pride is his domain, you’d expect that to be their native ring too.

Also I’m a tad unclear if the cannibals are sinners or hellborn. I’ve seen theories for both. Them existing so uniformly in their own community really doesn’t follow the pattern we’ve seen with any other sinners, so being hellborn would at least explain that inconsistency.

Sera’s confession is followed up by her incredibly careless of the exterminators and trying to appease literal Evil by threatening to ban Lute.

Sera’s and Lute’s songs are to set up expectations and then see when they crumble. As Sera has never faced a single massive consequence for the deals and arrangements she has proposed. Everyone takes their losses except her for what she has done and she doesn’t even care for those who are on her side. And Lute doesn’t know much about Charlie in the first place or if the redeemed Sinners will stand up against Hell when it’s needed.

Helluva Boss already had a lot of interactions between hellborn demons and living earth people, including ritualistic summoning. This is just a small step beyond that.

Honestly there’s a lot of lore established in each show that’s going to make the other show more confusing to viewers that aren’t obsessed with both, when inevitable crossover leakage begins between them. Like, I’m sure for example that casual Hazbin viewers have no idea that other rings of Hell even exist, and when that does get established it’s just gonna seem like an overly convoluted and confusing piece of worldbuilding, since it is useless to the Hazbin Hotel story. Also I’ve been wondering what effect the extermination has on the Helluva Boss characters, if any.

In hindsight, I’m starting to think the Speaker was drooping hints and foreshadowing the mechanics behind redemption. It’s starting to look more like whether or not somebody gets into Heaven or Hell has a lot to do with the personal guilt they feel over the things they do more than anything else.

Lute hates Charlie and accidentally almost given her what she wanted (her mom) and Sera goes “no no no”. Sera doesn’t even provide wisdom or proper care for Pentious and Lute. She’s legitimately the worst.

I keep wondering if Velvette declaring herself the backbone of the Vees and being the one to push taking the fight to Heaven in the Overlords meeting is going to be relevant.
Sure that was about combating the Extermination, but the basic idea isn't that far off. You might have expected her to have more to say about the plan.

I hope she and Valentino don't get caught off guard by Vox falling into full God-Complex or speak up about Alastor obviously playing him like a fiddle. Valentino of all people has demonstrated that he knows Alastor is Vox's weakness, and they're both obviously aware that Vox is struggling to remember the whole "Team" thing.
They might not care enough to raise it now, but at some point they've got to recognise that if they don't step in, Vox is going to crash their ship.

You know we half the season and feels like so little actually happened.

Overheard verbal discussions close to Viv as best I can remember and paraphrasing the details:

In the later series Alastor meets Emily 'coincidentally' in the hotel when she portals in. After he heard about her doing it before, he somehow figures out when she will again and makes sure Charlie won't be there. He offers to 'take a message' but charms Emily and starts subtly influencing her. She becomes enamoured with Alastor over time and eventually is willingly doing his bidding. By the end she has basically become evil, but is still naive so doesn't realise it, thinking Alastor wants to unite Heaven and Hell to make shit better, like the crap she was so pissy about in season 1.

Final climactic scenes are a simultaneous Hell-wide turf war and plan to destroy Heaven entirely initiated by Alastor. He has spent the series moving all his chess pieces into place for the final merciless attack using Emily as an insider to drop Heaven's defences.

He wins easily in Hell, having killed or undermined many overlords already, finally achieving his dream of becoming absolute ruler there. We find out he planned that all along ever since he was human, having some prior insight into the workings of Hell, (when he made a deal with Rosie he knew exactly who he was talking to).

Now having access to the full power of Hell he attacks Heaven. Charlie who sorta trusted Alastor to this point realises she dun goof'd. Her father no longer there to protect or save her, she basically 'grows up' in that moment having to make a choice between her dream and saving Heaven.

She attacks Alastor in her now uber-powerful demon form depowering him back to his previous level, but in a final contingent act of treachery he manages to kill Charlie.

After the dust settles we see Alastor welcome the cast down Emily as his Queen of a now empty Hell, because Charlie's sacrifice has redeemed everyone else and they are now with her happy and singing in Heaven.

Some of the other details I heard are too out of sequence to really fill in all the blanks or figure out how they connect exactly, but I do know Alastor kills some overlords but helps redeem some others just to get them out of the way. That's part of the reason Charlie ends up trusting him so much despite Vaggie never trusting him and continually warning her. Even the audience might trust him to some degree not knowing how it fits into his overall plans and think he's going soft or sorta redeemable himself as if he's coming around to Charlie's way of thinking.

One of the big events is Lucifer himself being redeemed, which Alastor has a LOT to do with. This is why he's not there to help Charlie in the end, and she's basically Acting Queen of Hell and then in actual fact by rank at that point with all the responsibilities that come with it, the weight of which she starts to feel and rises to in the end. Part of why she 'grows up'. Lucifer's redemption comes way earlier than expected and this detail surprised me the most because I was expecting this old fedora-tipping plebbit wheeze that Lucifer could pray for forgiveness and God could grant it if he wanted. But at the end, with Charlie's help of course.

Very little and mostly inferred that Lute is redeemed by the end. Not sure if that's after a fall or doesn't fall at the last minute or something like it looks like she will. There's one redemption where Charlie talks them down at the last minute when they're on a knife's edge of killing someone. That could be her, but don't know for sure. Probably if I had to lay money on it. Other possibility raised is Angel which could be interesting considering the whole 'murderer' thing in the last episode.

Not sure at all about Adam coming back or how her apparent Adam hallucination resolves. Some characters do die permanently and never come back at the end to raise the stakes and make Alastor more threatening, etc. So he could just be dead, or maybe Lute will get a happy ending with him. I loved the pilot but was nonplussed by the direction Season 1 went and how it ended up. Downgrades from the pilot were jarring and anyone will tell you the pacing was fucked. Some positive flickers here and there, like good musical numbers and some new characters.

But I was below the threshold of interest by the end I only kept watching the last couple of episodes out of curiosity. Only watched Season 2 to see which direction it would go, but really to watch Viv probably fail hard and get some lulz out of that. The rest is in large part my own headcanon because I'm extrapolating to fill in a lot of gaps so don't quote me on it. But I think Alastor's 'Plan A' after making the deal with Rosie was to show up in Hell and start offing minor overlords for this reason, due to his prior knowledge of how Hell works. When Rosie shut him down he had to resort to a less obvious 'Plan B' and more skullduggery, but he's even more confident he will prevail because his power level got significantly closer to hers before that happened. Like he expected 'Plan A' to get nixed but he gained an advantage just by trying it, and somehow knew Rosie wouldn't do shit in retaliation, (probably because she still needs him for her own task, which a little increase in power might help with).

I'm not sure it's exactly that, but I think it's going to be something like that, and haven't heard any disconfirming details, (which I have been specially looking out for).

He claims he just happened to overhear Viv describe the ending of the show in extremely vivid detail, then that he couldn't remember everything so he was going to paraphrase, and then went on to describe it all in very vivid detail. And then he disappeared for two hours to come back with more vivid details. He also gets some details wrong, like Lucifer being redeemed. Lucifer can't be redeemed, he isn't a sinner.

Yeah, when I first heard this I was like 'Fuck you in the neck Viv', and almost 'blew my cover' I was so mad, but then what did I, or anyone else, realistically expect from her? I can definitely imagine it being much worse that's for sure, and since then I've tried to imagine how this could play out in any way that's at least decently entertaining. I mean, I know she's running the show, but it's not like she's writing all the musical numbers or animating everything herself. Even knowing that there are other talented people who might make some of the details work, or make slight course corrections on her literal ship of the damned in some ways.

It is hard to get away from the Rey Skywalker parallels though. Like when she's battling Alastor in Hell, everyone in Heaven is going to be watching and rooting for her like 'all the Jedi', including Lucifer cheering her on. Fucking kill me.
