If Pixar wanted to milk the fuck out of Toy Story why don’t they just make spinoffs instead? Buzz and RC and many of Andy’s toys were already electronic, though not computerized. They had their batteries replaced all the time and it didn’t seem to do much. The tablet may be computerized, but I’m not sure it makes any more difference compared to the battery operated toys.

I personally don’t think a lot of the six year olds in the audience would really get or care about that sort of thing and I can’t think of a good way for the movie to get that kinda idea actoss to them.

One of the worst Pixar movies. Pinkava wrote a dull story with boring characters and an unappealing premise. Bird was brought late in development so he could salvage it, but he was unable to. Lasseter was too busy taking over WDAS and trying to save Meet the Robinsons, so he was unable to do much for Ratatouille either. This was made right during Disney's adquisition of Pixar, so development was a bit of a mess. It shows, cause there's a lack of polish to the writing, pacing and characterization here that you didn't find in other Pixar films at the time.
