You could also cull a good deal of Yugi's cards out too but they tend to be a bit more integral for summoning higher level things.

If we're applying Yugiho rules to Pokemon, I would assume that any pokemon in Ash's pokeballs count as 'in his hand,' not face down on the field, so they're not dragged into battle. The one on the field is immobilized though. I don't think you want that because then it becomes about attrition.
Equalized stats means that not only is Ash packing more guys at the top echelon (at least 6, possibly as high as 12 depending on where they calc his peak and/or include Solgaleo) VS Yugi having 4 at most.
Yugi's only advantage in attrition is being able to revive monsters, but he can't do that infinitely. Given we know it's a Ka duel and not YGO rules, Ash has more guys, a more useful variety of said guys, can switch monsters at will to preserve/restore stamina, and most importantly doesn't spend his own life energy just to summon guys or take damage.
