I don't know if Fionna and Cake season 1 managed to set an unattainable bar or the writers squeezed out every bit of creativity they had into making it but I'm just not enjoying it man. Episode 1 was a massive let down for what felt like a great bit of hype. It's not even old enough to claim nostalgia-fagging either. Where are the whimsical creative elements that made season 1 so captivating? I was literally glued to my screen waiting for the next big plot point to unravel, getting answers to questions we've had as a fanbase for years. We're 4 episodes in, 88 minutes, and it feels like we've gotten an answer to absolutely nothing. There's nothing visually interesting or stimulating about any of this and honestly I'm pretty pissed about it. The end of each episode left me wanting more. I couldn't even tell you how any of these 4 episodes so far have ended. Take this one bit of Candy Queen for instance: the colors, the animation, the choreography, the vocal resonance, it's built like someone gave a damn. Have we even had a song yet? The fucking Banana Guards, this whole skit is literally a direct commentary on the long-time criticism of Princess Bubblegum being an obsessive psycopath, and then we get exactly that in the manifest. I don't feel like we have had anything to even enjoy critically or as a casual.
