I want to use a wall SOMETIMES for a projector, and the rest of the time I want to hang pictures (with frames). Unfortunately pictures require nails. I though about getting some strong magnets to hide in the wall, so I can hang up pictures with the power of magnetism. Is this a good idea or not. The pictures would pull parallel to the magnet so this might be shite

it would be more useful to put the magnets on the pictures, then you can temporarily hang the pictures on the fridge or something. Good strong neodymium magnets will hold shear force pretty well, might fall off in an earthquake though.

Make your whole wall spin around like a lazy Susan, with the pictures on one side and the screen on the other. Simple as.

Put up a steel wall. Put magnets on picture frames. Put pictures anywhere on wall you desire. Done.

Take photo of picture.
Load picture onto computer.
Show picture on projector when not watching movie.
Discard actual picture.

Those hanging chains were put there for some visual effect. You can hang pictures from thin metal wires.
