If you don't know how to do something, just say so. Don't pretend like you do and mess it up.

What kind of carpentry will you be doing? Framing, finish, concrete, cabinetry, etc?

Nice, that's what i do too. You'll learn everything.

On your first day show up with the following tools:

>tool belt
it needs to have a bag on either side, two pouches in either bag and a place to put a hammer. any of these options are fine for a noob.

there are other much more expensive tool belts but just get one of these cheap ones to start off with.

Okay carrying on,

>tool belt
>framing hammer
>25ft tape measure
>knife
>speed square
>nail puller
>chalk line

That's pretty much it for your basics, just show up with that stuff and you'll already be leagues ahead of other retards. Be prepared to drop like $200 on your set up but think of it as an investment.

If a kid shows up to my crew with no tools then they're going to be spending the day picking up trash and moving wood for me. If they show up with a tool belt and some basic tools they'll be learning to cut the first day and maybe by the end of a few weeks they'll be using a nail gun and learning to frame.

What country? Also are you starting to learn or just doing a job?

ignore this shit. start off with a cheap leather apron, if you stick around youll understand what kind of bags you want.
>>2944443
this is good advice. here are some good examples.
20 oz estwing for general carpentry/22oz+ waffle faced for framing
stanley fatmax tape
stanley 99e knife
swanson speed square
i would recommend a lighter cats paw
milwaukee chalk line(get red chalk if strictly framing, blue otherwise. better to leave it empty and see what your boss is using, he should be supplying chalk to the crew.)
i would also add
red crayon and keel holder
pack of 3 nail sets
cheapest 1 inch chisel
air blow tool

Social: Expect a lot of insecurity. Tradesmen like to throw around their cockney and call you dumb for not knowing it.

Professional: if you mark a measurement, cut slightly to the outside of the mark.

1. Hammer your nails
2. Carpenter pencil doesn't roll downhill
3. Payday is on Friday

You better hope they start you off doing the real basics. "Fake it until you make it" isn't a great idea, if you're using tools that can remove your fingers.

if you want to learn you'll learn
nothing more to it

i just add 1 mm
it's easier to cut along the mark, especially if you do it by hand

>cheap leather apron
He's doing concrete/framing you retard. No one wears aprons doing that shit. I agree with your tool list though. An estwing 20oz with a smooth face is probably the best do-everything hammer you can buy. I use a martinez for framing and concrete but love to use the estwing when needed

occidental leather toolbelt if you're framing. You'll want about 10 tools ready on your person at all times and you'll spend half of your work on ladders or roofs.

5 gallon bucket with pocket liner if you're trimming, handywork, or remodeling. There's so many differ tools you need. With the 5 gallon, you can always walk it and get started.

i framed dozens of houses with one of these before saving up for my first fancy custom leather toolbelt.
