Someone recently tried breaking into my mailbox, and now I can't get my key in the slot let alone unlock it. Is there anything I can do to fix it (or even just get it open so I can replace it) without any specialized tools?

I don't want to have to call a locksmith unless I absolutely have to

If it is managed by the post office messing with it (even to fix it) is a felony. leave a note on it for the post man.

Already contacted the post office and they said they won't do anything. Contacted the condo corp that manages my townhouse and they said it's not their responsibility. Hence why I'm asking here in a last-ditch effort to avoid spending a couple hundred

then when the post man arrives and opens up the whole box, remove the metal tab that locks the lock. then you can maybe figure out how to remove the lock mechanism and find a replacement. other wise you have to drill the lock.

Mention what? That the two other parties potentially responsible for the box won't do anything, changing absolutely nothing about my question?

Anyways, trying a bit of WD40 before trying to reset it with a flathead did the trick.

honestly you just need to break the lock yourself and then say fuck the mail and then you need to break every new lock you put on. if you buy anything pick it up from a drop off business

you gotta determine if there is shit broken off like a screwdriver tip. remove that shit and then if your key still doesn't work pick it and see if your key works then. you can remove the barrel break it down and reset everything or replace it but while the barrel is out your box will be open (obviously). the non-skilled method is to wait for the mailman explain shit and hope he can give you access from the back to get the cylinder out and replace.

It really probably only needs the tip of jamal's screwdriver removed.

Postman buddy told me kids and beaners would be so hot to get welfare checks they'd try to be grabbing mail out of the ass end he'd have open, but that was LEGALLY like breaking into a Post Office to steal mail, and he was a rookie and not wanting to get fired, or worse. That was in 1984 White America.
