did the pipe burst? I'm on the ground/basement split level of the apartment.

What should I try now?

Fill the whole tub up with hot water, mix in a bunch of Dawn and plunge the bejesus out of it

have you had luck with that?
seems like the odds of that working are low

Yeah, it generally works. Something has to give eventually

Rent or buy a flexible snake camera. Are any other drains in the apartment backed up?

If you fill the tub you're going to get pretty substantial pressure on top of the blockage to give you an assist. But if you're confident that really is dirt then it might be time to throw in the towel. Or work at it like mad until you convert it into a drain field outlet.

CALL. THE. LANDLORD. You're literally paying for maintenance on the place already. Just tell them the dirt started coming up out of nowhere and mention nothing about throwing acid down the drain that may have fucked up some ancient plumbing.

Yeah what the hell? Living in an apartment is the opposite of do it yourself. In fact you can get into trouble if you do it yourself.

Any updates OP?
Mostly just curious if the dirt was from the plumbing or if that was actually a broken drain.

also, OP, a 30' hand drain is like 30$ at the hardware store
it looks like a toilet blockage. does it raise when you flush the toilet?

the pipe isn't busted or anything, it looks like there was just some hair clogging the pipe since.

it was fixed in like 5 minutes with his motorized drain snake auger. What a good way to make a buck. Although, every plumber looks extremely unhealthy and overweight and you always end up like your peers, so maybe not a good idea

If you have a metal coat hanger you can try and bend it into a nice linear shape and put it into the drain until it stops. Try and discern by feel/touch if it's a bend in the pipe or goo/hair/fat/crud. It's most likely hair in the shower tub. If you can pierce the hair clump enough times, the water will begin to drain a bit. Then you know that plunging it will work better. But you need to figure out how far down the blockage is because if it's too far down then you'll need a plumbing snake from Home Depot.
Anonymous No.2946820 [Report] >>2946840
I see you got it cleared via plumber and plumbing snake.

Anyhow, this will most likely happen again in your bathroom sink too. Unscrew the sink drain plug attached to the plunger and have a look sometime. I have come across some sink plugs at my ex GF's place that don't unscrew though, which was weird. Those sinks were so plugged I actually didn't know what to do except suggest she replace the sink because there was no room to get into the drain pipe without sawing out the pipe itself. It made no sense.

>>Anyhow, this will most likely happen again in your bathroom sink too
why?
>>that don't unscrew though
most don't, they're secured by the lever for the pull arm behind the faucet handle. it simply unscrews down on the drain tailpiece
>>without sawing out the pipe itself
tubular tailpiece kit is like 4$ if you can't figure out how to undo a basic popup assembly

>dirt is coming up

Just had this happen to me, as well. Ended up being a collapsed, cast iron sewer pipe that was allowing dirt to back wash into the drain lines.

It was literally right on Xmas and they had to replace the whole line and upgrade it to modern PVC. Thankfully, I have a crawlspace for the portion under the house, but if you have a slab, they'll have to bust through it inside the house to get to the damaged line.

Best of all, it ain't cheap, or quick, or DIY, but you gotta do it correctly. Raw sewage is bad and not something you can fool with, and the City won't let it slide either. Best of all, it's probably not gonna be cheap either :/

Good luck, Anon.

Remember to plunge a tub you need two plungers. One to cover the overflow as seen in his pic.

Probably a bad clog. Get a snake from the store, doesn't need to be fancy. Put it on your drill and gently spin it as you push it down. Wouldn't hurt to have some water in the tub as well so when it does go you have some idea. Bet you'll pull out a nasty fucking hairball. I have to do mine every year or so thanks to old cast iron pipes slowly rotting away.

Why dont you people install a mesh hair catcher?
Just clean out the hair after your shower and you will never have this issue.
