Hypothetically, how necessary is it for the baby bump to actually contain a baby? One of the things that's always been a downer for me is how, in reality, it's not there for very long. You have about a month of her at her biggest. Suspended pregnancy is one thing, but I've also found myself drawn to the idea of a woman who possesses all the other aspects of a late-stage pregnancy (though perhaps with the least pleasant ones reduced in severity), but she's not "about to pop", her belly just DOES that. Now it's not a transient state, but a fundamental part of who she is. Bonus points if she also has a maternal/mature disposition. My original conception of this was a twist on a fertility goddess, but I'm sure it could be adapted in other ways.

I've thought of this one before too. The premise I had in mind there was that the longer the baby stays inside mom, once already physically developed, the stronger baby's magical potential when born. Introduces a fun little note of concern at the idea of letting the kid incubate for TOO long.

I've seen some IRL stuff where the woman was stupidly large without being in "hyper” territory or Octomom, that was more than fine with me. Would you happen to remember a cam girl called “CandyK”? Respectfully disagree. A baby bump, provided she isn't also fat, has a signature curvature to the underside that sets it apart. All good points. There's just this… wistfulness, that at some point it's going to be the last one. If we descend into fantasy and remove aging as a factor, basic logic I can't ignore still imposes a limit in the form of the number of children one can truly, properly care for at once. I think the underlying theme here for me is “there's not enough time”, to which permanence isn't the ONLY answer. (Insert comment about Elven pregnancies here.)
