I had a mega for pony for a while and when we dumped pony I deleted it all since I didn't want to maintain anymore. I hadn't planned on uploading again cause then its goal post moving if uploading them all, demo images and then people ask for x and y or specific epoch and didn't want hassle. I have an AMD card with 8gb VRAM.
The first UI that I tried to use doesn't support AMD and when I got it working with SD NEXT a while back I got results that were always a bit crude or otherwise off. Like in this image, it looks like there is a final pass missing.
I figured I would give it a few months and hope something new comes out that I can use. Is there a good way for me to get this working or should I just give up and stick to online generators?

I had issues with that because the new models I wanted to use were in 1024x1024 so when I tried to put it into 512x512 to compensate for low ram, it mostly put out gibberish like this. The 512x512 models I could find were the old ones I wasn't interested in.

I tried it a few times before, it's usable if you bake a lora in advance which then feeds you currency for people using it. But you can't do that for free, not to mention experiment enough to make a decent one. Happens the same to me I always go for Basic_T2Iv10 or sometimes the VpredV10 and then go around by genning without the detailers so I can get a preview in about 50 seconds with my little 8gb gpu, then I go for the definitive one with everything and it takes around 3-4 minutes.

I only have one issue and that is I'm still not able to use openpose cause I haven't been able to find the "diffusion_xl_openpose.safetensors" controlnet model.

I bake its pretty easy, get grabber to download from booru or whatever, auto tagger extension etc. Hardest thing is to prune the dataset for what you want, that eats up the most time everything else is pretty automates. Add / remove tags in auto tagger or the booru tagger program

I got comfyui working and tried out a few different things. The generator works shocking faster than it did last time I tried, but the quality is not much better.

I tried changing artist styles randomly and some of them work noticeably better than others but none of them are good. The posted image is pretty much the best I got out of it. But it's still not correct and I'm getting a lot of dark stains on the image, the girls get bags under their eyes, severely incorrect anatomy, blurry lines etc.
Also XL models don't work, when I try to load one I get a memory error. I thought it's a lack of RAM issue, but they don't even work when I set the image to 256 x 256, while the 1.5 models work even at 1024 x 1024.
So, where do I even look next into fixing this?

Video RAM specifically. The model itself takes as much vram as its checkpoint file takes on disk, that's before the actual image you're genning. So going from 2gb to 6.7gb. You can enable sys-mem fallback which should let you generate anyway, but at massively reduced speed.

I ran that workflow on my setup and got the exact same output, so it's not a hardware issue. I also tried hires-fix, which is how we used to get around the lowres issues of SD1.5. Might be useful https://litter.catbox.moe/7okk9r3cubhm3cj7.png but it didn't help here. Don't remember much else from those days, other than on based64 I kept (worst quality, low quality:1.3) in negs at all times. Doesn't seem to help much here either. Maybe look at how Civitai folks prompt the model, most seem to rely on quality embeddings.

After some fucking around, I fixed a few things but not what I wanted. Indeed, the VAE was fucked and I had to click some buttons to make it load the file properly. I think it was trying to pull one baked into the model. Once that got working, the XL model started showing signs of life and after I gave it a 32 gig page file on my M2 drive, it started working.
The gen speed is fine, but it still sucks. The images coming out of it are still obviously unfinished and rudimentary. Here's a comparison. On the left is what I got from an anything 4.5 a few years ago on an online generator on the right is what I'm getting now from autismmixsdxl with the exact same tags. And in higher resolution.

That's just an issue of prompting. After more than a year of SD1.5 people got sick of the classic shiny pseudo-3D look it always produced. On SDXL models the style is accessible using "AI-Generated" tag, if that's what you're into.

For artist styles on Pony-based models like Autismmix, look at the "Pony-related" section of /hdg/'s OP. They have a list of known ones plus others hidden behind hashes (because the Pony baker tried to obscure most of them), for example "Zankuro" is prompted as "mjm".

Thought if you are on SDXL already I would recommend models based on illustrious or noobAI, that's what just about everyone uses for anime nowadays.

What's the secret to getting fishnets that aren't a complete mess?

There's so many artists I want to use but can't because I fucking hate red line art. I tried a "black outline" lora that didn't work. Tried (black outline:1.3) which didn't work. going to look for another lora but does anyone know of a way?
I hate having to be extremely cautious with mixes to make sure they all merge well with their outlines.

After a great deal of fucking around, I eventually got my generator working properly. This image is the best I made so far, it's not great but it's at least above the base quality floor. As it turns out, it was the models that were causing my problems. Based68 is fucked and I can't tell what's wrong with it. The model is fantastic when it comes to prompting specific artists, but the images keep coming out wrong. My issues with Illustrious were caused by using an old model that was apparently bad, after downloading 2.0 things started lining up correctly.
An old Anything 4.5 model I found laying around is actually pretty good and works properly out of the box, no questions asked and the gen speed is great.
Illustrious 2 takes longer, but puts out more detailed results, even if not necessarily better in all regards. certainly more versatile though.

Now someone tell me how to get rid of these double gens:

1024 x 1024 take like 10-15 minutes each. I'm not buying a new GPU to speed it up. I mean, I can just say I'll let the machine run for half an hour and get 3 images instead of 20-30 to choose for upscaling. I'll experiment with that when I'm not doing something else on my computer because generating an image that big pretty much shuts down every other program other than reading a pdf file.

Comfyui has been the least of my problems. I click the color coded squiggly lines together and it just works. Certainly a lot easier than sd next and all the poking I had to do there. I'll try anything if it looks like it'll work better and I'll be installing the next one in line but I'm not seeing any issues with it so far. The worst problem I found so far was that it didn't link the external VAE file the first time I tried.

illustrious can still be very good too it's just more for either the experimental stuff (1.0, 1.1, 2.0, etc), or merges with particular style emphasis for if you're going for something in particular, just imo
i know you're not into getting a new GPU but just since someone mentioned it, 3060 12gb should(tm) be a good "budget" starting point, honestly you don't straight up need 12gb as a minimum, some of the weight can be offloaded, but it definitely slows things down a lot and HDDs/SSD's just aren't really built for that kinda workload. Also always like civit's generator (kinda shit but getting better, even if the sites gotten worse otherwise), or NovelAI (needs your money), comfy might be your best bet afterall for AMD gpu's if you really want the one click set up, forge also has one but i think thats just for nvidia/cuda unfortunately and you'd need to do a full install otherwise, could check out stability matrix instead it might have you covered since it can autoinstall all the major UI's, but not used it. if you're deadset on comfyui, try tiled vae decode instead of regular vae decode node for the img2img stuff, unfortunately it won't let you do it for adetailer/facedetailer (iirc) which is a bit of a problem for comfy+low vram, but i don't think that's intended, might have just been my older version.

Every single NVIDIA card I ever purchased was some kind of dysfunctional. Whether laptop or desktop, they were all shipped to me broken, no exceptions. A rational part of me understands that it's just incredible bad luck, but I'm so fucking done with them and their customer support and warranty fuckery it's hard to put into words and I've been using nothing but AMD for years. And I've had literally 0 problems with ATI/AMD across over 20+ years. With the hardware, I mean, there are lots of programs that don't work with AMD well but that's not on their end. I'd sooner pay for an online generator than roll on green again.
