Should i pull the tigger on one of these?
I'll never spend 10K for a real one.
>>18430765Yes. Why not? Find out if the 6oclock subdial actually goes 12hrs or if it just mirrors the hour hand. If you give a shit that is.

Fuck me, I should've heeded the bad reviews on that vendor. Now I'm going to really learn to DIY this just to put the stock hands back on
>>18430765Isn't a Sugess $9,500 with tarriffs?
I don't really hear much about momentum watches. I wanted to buy a field watch but they are either all a bit boring looking (Seiko, Citizen) or really overpriced (Hamilton)
Their wayfinder has some pretty good specs for 250 USD:
>Titanium
>Sapphire
>Good lume
If it weren't for some passing comment from a thread on watchuseek I wouldn't have known the company even existed
>>18431121Only in Americaca!
>>18431226Nice, i'll check it out. Chinese brands really step up their game.
So far, if i had to rank chinese brands, i'd say:
1 San Martin (the GOAT)

2 Suggess
3 WatchDives

>>18431919It's kind of gay, ngl.
I only wear mine when i sleep and when i workout, both moments when i don't wear my real watches.
>>18431926I've been looking at that too. As a JLC cope. Also the Hamilton Ardmore. I try to wait a year between watch purchases so we'll see how I feel in December.
>>18431940>Just get ur self a $400+ high tier replica, and u can look rich. There's no replica for Zenith watches, normies don't know the brand.
bought for $69 last year, now discontinued
another chinese shitter arrived today, from the brand proxima. It is a homage to serica 5303, but with a CW lightcatcher case, sand wave dial, signed crown, and a display caseback. Cost me about 220 usd.
39mm diameter, 45mm lug to lug, almost 12mm thick, perfect for any wrist size. The lume is also quite generous. Very happy with this purchase. This will be my new daily beater from now on.
i bought a chinese shitter and will be posting it when it arrives
>>18431226I got the citizen because I liked that it was day-date and ecodrive. also just kind of like the name. but that wayfinder is cool. I sure wish I had sapphire, but one day I'll break or opaquely scratch my mineral and I'll get a sapphire replacement.
>>18431234I want to like san martin but their logo looks like it was made by a retarded child.
>>18431926nice. every cheap tank has roman numerals which I have an aversion to, for some reason
Anyone else have a Buyalov or other Russian microbrand?
>>18433251never heard of it, some cool designs (trying to get the Vostok market i suppose) but quite pricey imo.
Those are probably made in China, so i guess there's a middle man getting its margin of profit there.
>>18433288From what I heard, the creator used to work for Vostok and was responsible for turning their QC around for the better in the early-mid 2010s. I've mostly started looking at them because the newer and nicer Vostoks just keep creeping up in price lately.
>>18430765It says sucks ass on it.
This is the best watch thread on the board because the $500 hard cap filters out all the attention whores who spam their fake wealth 24/7
Picked this up off Facebook marketplace for $300. Pretty happy with it, the dial looks great for the price. Runs pretty fast though
>>18433743He's right, though. The Swiss responded to the quartz crisis not by making a better movement (which they apparently can't) but by doubling down on their watches being expensive. But now they are expensive because of "heritage" and "prestige", otherwise known as marketing.
About $250-500 seems to be the price point where they don't treat the consumer like a gullible idiot
>>18431234>>18431490beautiful watch, where are you buying it, post link please.
>>18433973It's the Sugess Tourbillon Master SU8230G, it's on their official site.
They are around $/ā¬500, it's on the more expensive side for the brand, but considering luxury brands sell tourbillons for 20K or more, it's a good price.
>>18433982thanks, i'm going to buy it now.

Sugess? Suges is a kind of name, but Sugess, the two S's. This is a pun on success? Why can't they just be upfront and call it Xiaoba watches or just get like a second or third row German or French name from Switzerland and call it like Bovay or Brunner watches.

>>18430761 (OP)Strongly considering a Rdunae RA03 as my first chink watch. I got a Shitizen bm8180 recently but it weirdly keeps losing time despite being fully charged. The Rdunae seems unbeatable for the price. 34mm is good for me because I am 6' tall but 138 lbs with 6 inch wrists. The only drawback is the lack of a date display which I actually use. Should I just stick to Casio?
>>18439755>Shitizen bm8180weird, must be quality control. mine has been extremely accurate, I've had it at least 5 years.
you need to make a warranty claim.
>>18439696Seiko NH35 mostly.
Thoughts?
I saw it recently on hand and it looked nice
>>18439765It loses 6-8 seconds per day which means there is something wrong given quartz. I might just return it for a refund as I just got it. I had to return another one because it had QC flaw with the dial printing. The most recent Jap watches I've gotten have had terrible QC. I ordered a Seiko dolce with case finishing on the level of walmart watches I've seen. Meanwhile the finish/dial on my SKX from 2014 looks amazing compared to current production. The Japs are really slipping it seems. Kind of sad.
>>18439791I got one of these but ended up getting rid of it because it was a little too small for me. I like how they look though.
>>18439802Damn definitely looks clean. Think I'll just get it

so I was looking to buy a chinese watch. the company ships worldwide free but to the US they have a separate fee because of the tariff.
that doesn't bother me, it's only ten bucks, but is that the end of it? am I going to get a separate bill from US customs or whatever?
I don't know how any of this works
>>18441638>shitters under $500>posts $900 watch with completely different aesthetics
>>18441454With reported 10mm thickness, i believe it uses a low level miyota movement. Still whats the point of buying this when you can get a chinese mechanical shitter with better specs. Casio should stick to quartz watch, thats it.
>>18441694The other rumored specs paint an even worse picture
>Mineral crystal>Integrated FOLDED bracelet>Pressed claspTruly a more baffling decision from Casio than that new G-Shock that looks like a Sonic OC
I bought this one for 40 bucks, what do you think
Looking to get my first mechanical watch, I'm between the Red Star 1963 and a Seiko Dresskx at the moment. The Red Star with a sapphire crystal would be ~$100 cheaper but I've heard it's more expensive to service this watch than to just buy a new one. The Seiko would probably last longer but doesn't come with sapphire out of the box. Thoughts on these shitters?
>>18441456size wise a158 is good for suit but you may find the bracelet uncomfortable. I would get a small seiko tank as alternative.
>>18441732Its fukken garbage m8.
>>18441732For 40 bucks it's a nice find!
For this prioce you can barely get an analog Casio these days.
People like to shit on designer watches because they are usually overpriced and tacky, this one is neither. Better design than the thin bezels Daniel Wellington.

>>18441843Yes it is overpriced. The cheapest quartz movement plus i'll bet my left nut it's a mineral crystal and as per usual, non existent quality control. He'd be much, much better off buying something from aliexpress for that price.
>>18441877Show me a better analog watch for $40.

>>18441874so you're saying Casio is lying?
>>18441454who asked for this?
>>18442074it's pretty bizarre. if they were trying to get into making their own movements (although the appeal of that is also questionable - are enough watch buyers demanding automatics? I didn't think normies cared and casio is the ultimate normie brand) then ok. they want to get into the auto game with a seiko movement, but what's stopping the buyer from just buying a seiko? they think enough people *really* want it to say casio on it. maybe they're right but I just don't get it.
>>18442119>what's stopping the buyer from just buying a seikothe price tag
>>18441788do consider the acrylic version, it's more sovfvl
Armitron Griffy. Really good for thirty bucks, has a real metal case instead of Casio plastic. Bracelet is acceptable too. People love it.
>>18442134edifice: estimated price $300
seiko: pic related.
technically it's movement is 4R35 since the nh35 is only for non-seiko watches but caliber corner says they're the same.
>>18442351yeah but don't you have to push a button to make it visible?
>>18442376Yeah but thatās how the originals were, itās kinda fun anyways
>>18442375tbf the Casio is supposedly thinner and imo it has a cooler dial. The brand has a lot of fanboys so at $300 i think it will sell well even if the Seiko you posted is most likely of better quality. Maybe it will be the introduction for some kids to the world of automatics
>>18441732it's ok, you may also change the strap if you like.
got this also for around 40
>>18442349>real metal caselooks cool, might get one
Why don't they have this watch as an automatic. I am livid. It would be perfect
>>18442977Actually Batman is better
Just gave my shitter a new look, dial+hands were $15. Base mod is a proxima px1695. It does have a ghost day wheel because of the nh36, i might swap it out for nh35 eventually. It was difficult to mod this watch because the case takes 31.5-32.5mm dial , and there aren't many options.
>>18443019what online stores do you use for mods? I'm thinking about getting a display back for a mechanical watch. I have a set of calipers, are there different thread pitches I have to worry about?
I'm thinking of getting an Orient open heart for my next purchase, I just don't know what color. I curretly have a Orient with blue dial on cream, and I love it. The color on the dial is very striking, the face design is clean, and the strap is comfortable. I like the idea of a blue face, to match my blue car, but the gold on white also looks very nice.
>>18443417and after that, I've been considering a seiko 5 sport, a Tissot PRX, but I'll probably go with this one, I like the dial design, and green is a nice color
>>18443416>I like the idea of a blue face, to match my blue car, but the gold on white also looks very nice.I agree those 2 look best, but personally I'm feeling the blue
>>18443418Is this a joke? If you want a fat watch with $20 movement inside and a mineral crystal you can get something from aliexpress for 10 times cheaper.
>>1844342138mm isn't too large for my wrist, I'd even get a 50mm idc. I don't doubt that it's overpriced, I'd try to get it less than $600, but I'm not really interested n aliexpress knockoffs. I'm paying for something that would be high quality, not cheap chinese shit.
I'm also looking ahead to getting a grand seiko because I heard it has very smooth movement, and they cost upwards of 10 grand. Would that be a joke if a $25 watch can also tell the time?
>>18443019>proxima px1695.wow, that proxima logo is ugly. the dial, too. your mod is a huge improvement too bad you couldn't keep the day/date. I do like the original bracelet, though
>>18443430>I'm paying for something that would be high qualityYou are not.
>>18443434Considering Gucci sells bucket hats for $850, Ferrari sells basebal hats for $300, and various fashion outlets sell t-shirts for hundreds of dollars, I'm not too concerned with spending $600 on a seiko that has a nice design, and reliable manufacturing. Note that $600 CAD is $430 USD, not outrageous for a watch.
Do you have a specific gripe with seiko? I'm ignorant
>>18443438I already told you that seiko is fat, has the cheapest movement available and mineral crystal for 10 times what the same specs would cost buying from chinese directly.
>>18443418That price for hardlex glass, low tier 4r movement, unnecessarily thick watch case, and almost non existing QC, you clearly don't know much about today's seiko. The chinese watch costs less than half of that but offers sapphire glass and better regulated movement, possibly a miyota 9xxx or pt5000. Still, the money is in your hand.
>>18443418orient is nicer
>>18443440>buy chink shit>don't like it>can't return itgenius

>>18439222Probably. There is no infrastructure in russia for mass produced watches besides the Vostok factory. Even Raketa, who make their own movements down to the hairspring, have to order out for cases and bracelets.
>>18439222I like yellow watches. Do you have any pics? I wonder what the significance of those black and yellow bezels are if any? I've seen them on other watches before.
>>18442400If they're charging you extra it's implied that they're dealing with customs on your behalf.
I have a cheap chinese engineer bracelet on my inexpense watch that I daily that I like quite a bit.
however, the climate here is hot and humid a lot of the time. it expands my wrist and the humidity makes this more uncomfortable than usual. adding another link on the bracelet makes it too loose on days when it's not too hot/morning/winter.

>>18445279Tissot are fine enough, as in they'll function as a daily office wristwatch, but be aware that whatever amount you're spending on them you're essentially buying a chinese made watch. It's probably less "Swiss" than (you) are, whoever you are. I wouldn't buy a chinese watch for whatever tissot's charging retail these days is all I'm saying. But if you have your eye on one you like, it's convenient to procure and you don't mind spending $500 on "Swiss Made (actually we're lying it's made in china lol)" to save yourself the hassle of looking any further then just do it.

I really don't like the haphazard layout of the dial elements though: the small seconds in such a weird position so close to the date window, and then the ever superfluous "AUTOMATIC" and "TITANIUM" bunched up on the other side because there's nowhere else to put it.
Horrible. It's not a bad watch technically however.
Any opinion on the Seiko 5 Sports GMT ?
I am seriously considering the SSK001K1. Can get them for ~500. Just wanted some nice watches with reliable mechanics and GMT function (cuz I actually use the GMT function).

>>18445348Supposedly I have fairly average wrists (6.75"), if true then idk who tf all these chunky Tudors etc are supposed to work for.
>>18445488not him but I think the in close-up photo the camera shifted to wide angle, not total fisheye but the center of the shot looks enlarged. in the second picture it looks like it fits better. it's big, but not oversized-looking like the first
>>18445277>>18445488Looks good on the second picture. But now I am concerned. Your watch is 39mm and the automatic is 40.5mm. I have 6.5" wrists. Might be too big for my wrist
>>18444838Here's a quick snapshit I took. Meranom sells Vostok bezels of the same style and calls them "rally bezels" due to looking like a checkered racing flag.
This dial also has a sunburst texture like the other Modsters, but the yellow-orange tone makes it subtler compared to the other colorways
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSxvZBjaJcY
>>18445234Just saw that they are releasing a 2025 version. Better clasp and better movement (60h battery). Different dial colors and pattern. No date.
I kinda like the old color/pattern better tho
>>18445582let me guess .. still fat and bulky?
>>18445631https://citizenwatch.eu/en/p/nk5020-58x/
Diameter is 40mm vs 40.5 of the old but it has the same thickness
>>18445520Thanks for the actual non product pic. I had no idea meranom even had a yt channel. I didn't think it had a sunburst effect at all. I like the idea of yellow dials, but I've never owned one. I have a orange nepture that I really like but legibility annoys me. I bought a black handset to replace the silver from favinov because that contrast would definately help.
>RallyflagSo that's why.
Another fucking watch thread. Three fucking watch threads on page one⦠This board really did turn into r/mfa
>>18446665I was looking for a yellow watch myself, and it was either going to be that or the yellow Tsuyosa. I picked this over it because the movement is similar enough (Miyota 82S0 vs Citizen 8210), but it has better WR (200m vs 50mm), costs less ($150 USD vs 300-400), and the lugs curve better. It is heavier than the Tsuyosa and is slightly bigger at 40.5mm vs 40, so make of that what you will. Also, the stock bracelet feels welded to the case despite not being integrated and uses regular 22mm spring bars.
>>18445289Nah, I couldn't. It was on sale and I didn't buy it from addiesdive itself.

this is a dress watch tailored for weddings and you'll shit it up quickly, it will never look as good as it does now. and the dial color will make it look even bigger btw.
>>18434165Casioak. You can wear it with anything. Just don't get a flashy color, and it will blend nicely with any outfit.
>>18434165Citizen BI5000-87E
kind of the same thing but cheaper
avoid buying watches online in general
>>18430765>no ugly 4.30 date window>but also no stupid 24 hour subdialThey actually did it properly, i can't believe it.
>>18433992it doesn't even have a date so it being mechanical isn't really a problem. should take less than a minute to wind and set.
>wanting a watch under $500 but not buying an apple watch or similar
why?

>>18450946so does anything under $5000 but least people will respect a nice smart watch as it show you care about your health

Are they retarded? It could have been the perfect $500 integrated bracelet watch.

>>18439241thanks for posting this, anon. I copped.
I can post all the stuff that came in the box if anyone is interested
>>18451100How much was it?
>>18450990Still a $500 ($700 at launch) watch with a water resistance that weak feels wrong. I like the Super Seville but the WR frustrates me.
>>18450953lul just read about fkm yesterday
>>18451421>FKM pretty much inert once all the elements form molecules. elemental fluorine is nasty, but so is sodium and chlorine, but once they're sodium chloride, it's just table salt.

not that I advocate smart watches, but you can get regular watch straps in FKM, too
Thinking of getting Militado's mechaquartz Murphy clone
>>18451100it's gained about 6 seconds from when I first wound and set it about this time yesterday.
pretty good, I'd say. running fast is preferable to slow, imo.
since I have a daily beater and this is just for dress occasions, I chose hand-wind, which saved 4 grams and 1.1mm in thickness according to the spec sheet. gotta say I'm happy with this thing.
>>18451850*over the automatic version, I mean
>>18430761 (OP)watch autism is so weird to me
you spend so much money on a status symbol thats only ever gonna be relevant for people within range of your financial status
beyond Rolex no one who isnt an enthusiast is gonna recognize your 100k watch anyways
you dont need it for telling the time
and its a shitty investment since it actively loses value with wear unlike something like gold
Idk if this poorfag or not. Which watch you guys like more and why ? Also which do you think looks better ?
>>18452123Oops I forgot to mention that this Certina DS action diver 38mm vs Seiko Alpinist 39,5mm shark tooth
>>18452123neither. both are too big. el cheapo metal f91 is better.
>>18451796cathedral hands are weird. I feel like they're a holdover from ornate pocket watches that only steampunk enthusiasts would want, but you see them on all kinds of stuff. that watch is in all other ways utilitarian, yet the hands these are fin de siecle, art nouveau looking things with the curves and extra lines everywhere.
I just don't get it.
>>18452123>>18452125The Certina is an obvious Rolex homage, might as well buy a rep or a San Martin at this point.
The Seiko Alpinist exists on its own and fits better on you. So between the 2, Seiko.

>>18453998I mean, if I were going to buy a timex, I'd buy one of their quartz models and save $150 and have more accurate time. I loved my weekender and you get indiglo which is awesome.
if I wanted mechanical specifically I'd probably get one of the Baltany field watches for around the same price and a movement that's been proven to be robust in the marketplace for several decades and it'll have sapphire and possibly other higher spec stuff than that timex.
although I didn't look up the timex spec so if it actually compares favorably to the Baltany then go for it I guess.

>>18441889Can't stand the typeface on the dial
>>18455872get your faggy twink wrist n ur shitter outta here wristlet poorfag faggot
>>18455706the case is at what I would call a high mirror polish. the sapphire has rounded edges and a very slight dome, it seems flawless to my eye. all the indices have facets that catch the light at angles and the dial has a champagne texture in very bright light. there's no flaws on the dial, hands, or indices; I'm sure I'd have noticed as much as I've stared at it. the strap is "genuine" leather. not premium or special but it's nice enough imo. what's cool is they have those quick release tabs on them, which was not mentioned in the listing, so that's a great bonus. another thing I'm not sure the listing mentions is that the second hand sweeps, which is very classy.
I don't have any experience with high end watches to compare it with but personally I'm really happy with it so far.
one criticism is the crown looks cool but it's very difficult to get ahold of to wind it. some knurling would have been nice although it's not as cool looking that way.
I actually wore it out the first time last night to a concert.

>>18456488Jesus fuck what is wrong with you if you think this is a smooth sweeping second hand. Have you seen any mechanical watch any your life?
>>18456491No i've never seen an automatic watch, they're very rare here on north sentinel island. Relative to the usual TICK TOCK quartz, it's very smooth. The VH31 can pass for a cheap automatic.
>>18456495Not even vostok has the movement so stuttery.
>>18456501It spins around and doesn't tick every second which makes it very slick for a quartz. No ordinary person would notice a difference between a vh31 and a mechanical, for the wearer it's much nicer to look at than the abrasive ticking of the usual quartz shitter.
>>18456508There is no such things as "very slick for a quartz" ticking is either slick or not. And in this case it's not. Not even close.
I would rather have standard ticking quartz, at least it's honest.
>>18456514Yes anon, just like everything in life there's never a middle ground, it's just sweeping or ticking once every second.
It beats more per second than an ordinary quartz whilst not beating as often as a mechanical, it's in the middle. I can respect the honesty element but i think quartz movements look like shit, the vh31's the only quartz i can tolerate looking at
>>18431490Lmao who calls their brand Sucks ass?

>>18456226Good to know, thanks.
I'm still wondering whether I should get one or the dial is too empty for its size.
I'll keep thinking about it.
What's up fellas, looking to get a new watch so if you have any suggestions for stuff to keep an eye out for let me know. Am a wristlet with 6in wrists so it's difficult finding watches that fit well since the trend seems to be huge dials and cases. Looking for something sporty with a metal bracelet I can daily, and probably quartz if under 500. I like minimal looking watches. Currently looking at this Tissot PRX 35mm so if you have anything similar feel free to suggest something, thanks.
>>18457905the usual suggestion would be something from Casio's Oceanus line for most of your needs but I'm not sure they make anything for wristlets like us.

>>18457952way too big, awful watch, kys
>>18434262>>18434328>>18445289Honestly every Chinese watch brand should just do what Watchdives did and spend 10 fucking minutes in photoshop to make a simple text-free logo and offer it on all their watches.
Rebranding and coming up with a good-sounding romanized name is obviously hit or miss for them. This is such an easy foolproof way to circumvent that and I'm sure sales would skyrocket if they got rid of ""Boderry"" or ""Steeldive"" from the dial.
They're kinda retarded for not all doing this already.
>>18434262>>18434328>>18445289>>18460614You act like names like Rolex, Blancpain, Nomos, Hublot, Bulgari, Parmigiani, Breitling aren't equally nonsensical and pulled out of the ass
>>18460638not him but I agree with you both. the tradition of putting a full name (person, corporate, or just plain made up) across the dial under 12 o'clock is so annoying. I'm well aware what brand of watch I bought. I don't need to read it whenever I tell time.
somehow, to me, a logo is just not as bad. it's smaller and something about a graphic just seems more decorative and less intrusive than a word.
I could do without any branding at all. the argument is often made that the empty space without it is awkward in itself. I think that's on a case-by-case basis. but I believe it's less awkward than crowding the space with BRAND NAME.
branding on the caseback is ok. I mean, the company does deserve to brand their products somewhere.
but if it's going to be front-and-center on the dial, a well-designed logo is so much better.
otoh, there's really shitty logos like San Martin which is an ugly shape plus they still put the entire name in it, in the ugliest typeface imaginable. the literal worst of all possibilities.
maybe I'm weird.
>>18460638Blancpain and Breitling are just a last names even if the direct translation does sound retarded. But anyways you're right, it's just that those brands have established themselves already and we've gotten used to how they sound.
I guess if "Pagani Design" starts truly innovating they can accomplish something similar and become a brand name, but it would take something new and on the level of the Spring Drive to do that. A far easier solution is just using a fucken logo.
