Quartz Appreciation Edition.

You know the drill.
This is an accumulation of the Internet's wealthiest and most knowledgeable watch enthusiasts. You can take advantage of that fact by asking niche and very obscure questions, you can join us by posting wristshots, coffee, grail watches and anything in-between, OR you can simply asks us for recommendations and thoughts on X watch.
Keep it civilized, this is a gentlemans hobby after all.
P.S. don't summon Le Rodént for small or unimportance things.

It just dawned on me; Tudor is actually better than Rolex.
Tudor is a master chronometer while Rolex is "superlative". What does that mean in practise? Rolex doesn't even do third party certification on them, instead they do their own testing and deem it "better".
I'm so glad I went with my BB54.

In a world where Rolex screams status, Tudor whispers taste. A Rolex is the billboard of success, but Tudor? It’s the secret handshake of those who know better. You pay less, yet get a sibling forged in the same fires—Swiss precision, timeless design, and none of the "look-at-me" hysteria. A Tudor is a poet's watch; a Rolex, a salesman’s pitch. Why spend double to impress strangers when you could spend less and impress yourself?

too lazy and i don't think i can take good pics even if i tried but it looks good and silvery outside in the sun meaning when on your hand others around will see some nice and shiny watch
indoors it's kinda shit usually (but in some angles/light looks good too, rarely) cos the indexes are super cheap high polish mall tier crap, there was this latvian guy talking about this watch and how cheap it looked and he's right but outside in sun? it's great. wouldn't think twice about wearing it to the beach and on dates and shit.

You can't review a watch.

Not even the long-term reviews can do justice to any watch. Exceptions might exist, but we're always talking about the rules here or else we risk dragging an already long conversation into an Epic.
Listen, how you feel about a watch, is up to you, nobody else can tell you how you will feel once you get to experience the watch or how it will affect you and your wallet. They can only share their experiences. Said experiences will be subjective and 100% of the time (no exceptions to the rule here) plagued by an impossible to avoid bias. How many times has a design grown on you overtime? How many times did you think "Hey, this doesn't look as bad as I remember" and how many times do those YouTubers come back with "I was wrong about X!" As an apology to not only themselves, but to theri supposed fans or people interested in doing any research at all before spending hundreds, thousands or even tens of thousands on a watch, a product that's impossible to review?
So what does that even mean "I was wrong about X!"? The damage has been done now.

Sometimes, it even takes Years to notice a flaw in your daily watch, a flaw in the dial that was hiding in plain sight, a flaw that makes you question if it was there when you bought it or if it happened during uour endeavors. My main focus on this post will be the things that you notice about your watch after prolonged wear. Like any other product that we pay a lot of time with, the way you look at it objectively at first as an, well, object- slowly changes and takes shape into something with character. But this Character is only visible through your own eyes. Nobody can understand the connection between you and your Car, between you and your Cat, you and your Gun, and of course, your watch.

When does this character start to finalize or even materialize? That's the hard part.
To me, Personally, it happens after a long absence. This is easier to do if you have multiple watches. You stop wearing uour favourite watch and give spend some Time with your other pieces. You start to appreciate them too, building a relationship with them. Even starting to match them with your clothes, not as an afterthought but at the center of your outfit. A month, or two, or three will pass. You stop thinking about your favourite watch even though you glance at it daily through the see-through spot/glass of your watchbox. And yet you never wear it because you got used to your other watch(es).
Once you finally wear it, mostly out of curiosity, that's when it clicks and you fully realize the potential of that watch. At that moment, it almost talks to you. And you understand its worth.
We humans tend to compare things, for better or for worse, and then you start comparing everything on said watch with your others and that's where you simply "understand".

For my first watch, I have a budget if around €1.5k. I'm torn between the Hamilton Khaki Murph and keep my €500 or a Christopher Ward C63 in 36mm, with black dial (picrel). I want one watch and that's it. My wrist size in 18.5cm, if I leave some space for the bracelet, otherwise 18 for a tight fit but I prefer to loose one. Both of them on the bracelet and I tried the Khaki Murph in person but I would've preferred if it had 3-6-9-12 or 3-6-9 at hour marks instead of showing them all.

I bought two watches from Chrono. Both of them are in better condition than described. Communication was very fast and understandable. Even the one watch that I got from Japan, The dude replied quickly and with understandable English.
The problems are the prices. Corono 24 is at least 10% higher than the rest of the markets.
My watch was around $2,000 but I could have easily found it for $1,700

I think chrono keeps more %s yes but the sellers also inflate the prices because I guess chrono has a better reputation/bigger name.
If you found the right deal, then go for it. But be aware older watches are almost always franken watches, which isn't a bad thing per se but that's a different topic.

The khaki field was my first real watch, it's actually the GOAT field watch with the best legit background (Vietnam war).
It's a watch i'll always keep, it fits in a collection even if i have Rolexes and so on.

The Christopher Ward on the other hand will just be a shit watch if you have a collection with Rolexes Oyster Perpetual or Explorer. It's more of a cope watch, while Hamilton has its own market.

Like little children. Sometimes cute, sometimes annoying. Always immature but with the understanding that they’ve still got some growing up to do.
I mean, how many of us still wear the watch we wore in high school?

Now, when you’re talking about grown men wearing a Tudor, the only emotion is a deep welling of pity.

i know some seriously rich and powerful people and none of them flex big fancy watches. if they do they bought it after they got rich.
watch community attracts a lot of the hylic npc brained HENRY status-seekers in society. they're successful enough to buy a $30,000 watch but they're too stupid to understand generational wealth so they're perma gatekept out of the elite circles they desperately want in and their kids will descend in status as a result.
the real rich people set up retard bait scams like "blow all your money on a huge mansion and a watch and boat" to milk the henry's and aspirational class. its how you're kept poor and they stay rich.

I upgraded my Tudor bareback 54 with an FKM rubber strap. I've owned it for nearly a month now as a celebration of getting barebacked for the first time. I'm usually a top, and otherwise hetero.

I was recently with a new guy, he asked me to use a condom and I was happy to oblige, especially after he complimented my watch. I similarly complimented his, a Casio Dw-5600, it's an action of mutual respect. My wife only complains the lume of the bb54 wakes her at night.

Anyway, we retired to the back of his camper van which was dark and smelled like wetsuits, as this gentleman was a surfer. He was facedown and ready for penetration. I opened the condom wrapper but couldn't figure out which side would unroll easily onto my penis. I used the impressive lume of the bb54 to light up the condom and found the correct orientation, without needing to turn on a light and spoil the mood or attract unwanted attention. The rubber strap is sexy and sporty, even if I am yet to expose the bb54 to more than handwashing or some spilled liquids.

All in all, I am greatly enjoying the Tudor Black Bay 54.

What kind of rubber? Vulcanized? And how much was it? I'm still thinking of just nato strapping it or some leather.

How would rubber survive the vulcanization process? Think about what you're saying.

I didn't think this could ever happen, but we reached a new low.
