What is the difference between selvage and non selvage? Aren’t all jeans selvage?

Seems to me that it's the only reason people cuff their jeans.

only jeans with selvedge denim are selvedge jeans.

Selvege is just how the jeans have the old school natural edge on the outter seem.
It doesn't really mean anything.

People act like it's "higher quality" but denim is friggen denim, and on the inner seem most jeans (including selvedge) is sewn like normal anyways.

These days selvege is associated with raw unwashed denim. But raw unwashed denim can come without a selvage line too. And selvage denim can also come prewashed.

It's essentially a meme that people online hype up and act like it's some exclusive feature.

It used to be true that, generally, only high-quality jeans-makers were making selvedge, so selvedge was a strong proxy for quality. Not sure if that's true anymore.

To be fair, even the non fast fashion selvedge jeans fooled the noarmals into thinking that buying and wearing them would make them something that they're not, unless that something was an even bigger fool
