Guys, I have coarse and curly hair and it is terrible. I put shit tons of products in and it still looks like crap around the crown. The individual strands look like they've been crushed.

Any tips? Suggestions?

I hope it makes some people feel more inclusive, since I know most of you have coarse and curly hair denial. As the norm on /fa/ is rather different.

You don't have "coarse hair", you overwash it. If you have wavy/curly hair you just have to trim loose ends and stop attacking your scalp with bad products.
If you have coily hair you are just fucked and should >>18460299

Both these dudes straighten their hair, none of them wear it out like that. You can, but it just doesn't look good unless you have a very feminine face, like the dude on the left.
If you want to wear it curly, wash it, shampoo, condition, ring out the water, then gel your hair and comb through it then dry it with a diffuser. A lot of work, and guess what, it won't even last a day, wind will blow it frizzy again. You can use leave in conditioner instead of the gel, but you'll need a lot of it and it won't be affective as gel at reducing bulk but it will make it feel smoother.
Best bet with this type of hair is to find a shorter style or get straightening treatments regularly.

Getting a good layered haircut is the first step. Without that your curls will always look bad. It's likely that your hair is too damaged to be saved by products.
Use a curl friendly shampoo only once a week by rubbing it into ur hands and massaging ur scalp gently.
Use curl friendly and moisturizing conditioner and/or leave-in on a daily basis.
Use DIY masks with essential oils regularly (I do this before shampooing so as to protect the hair strands from damage)
When applying any product try to scrunch it into your strands instead of just slapping it onto your hair.
I have the same hair type and I actually dislike the curly hair aesthetic, so what I like to do is use heavy products that weigh your curls down (such as the cantu curl cream). By doing that my hair looks more "wavy" and a little flat instead of poofing out.
This is just a personal preference tho, so if you want your hair to be really curly and voluminous use lightweight products.
Go to curlsbot dot com and other research platforms to check any product for harmful ingredients. You don't wanna blind buy.
Reddit threads and yt videos can also help, but don't be illusioned to buy the most expensive premium products out there. Currently I'm using products from Hask, Cantu and Bali Curls.

I forgot to mention there are also little things to your routine that can mage a big difference, such as using a scalp massage comb, avoiding hot water, pat your wet hair with microfiber towel lightly, use silk pillows/bonnets etc.
