I have both a lacoste and a ralph polo and honestly the lacoste blows the ralph out of the water in terms of comfort

They became really popular with bankers who would all start their careers fit and get fatter and fatter over time so RL started designing them to be flattering in the waist, shoulders, and arms. They’re made a like suit. Every man looks good in them.

That is precisely what is meant by "unflattering"- clothes that reveal your flaws, rather than hiding them. Only the already beautiful should wear them, but in practice you can easily find a more interesting polo to wear from Todd Snyder, Stoffa, etc.
