its the vintage ones that are considered stylish, they have a completely different fit with long, loose fitting sleeves gusseted shoulders and a short cropped body. a lot of guys are even opting to wear the women's vintage ones for an even more cropped body. they're one of the best looking jackets that isn't super old timey for short guys.
the modern ones are good workwear for their intended purpose though. solid dependable garment.

they're wool sport jackets popular around the 30s-50s. they're not exactly workwear but not /tip/ either they would have been used for outdoors stuff.

here's what the back looks like. they usually have a belt, sometimes elastic. they were made in solid colors too, black being the most common.
they're low key the best vintage jackets. rare to come by in good condition because of moths + time but when you find them they're not that expensive usually under $1000. i think they're even nicer than vintage leather jackets.

Why is his hat so high on his head? Too small? Also, nobody wears that to work. Workwear is a polyester, high vis polo and polyester cargo pants

man this workwear larper walked past me the other day and he just looked so fucking corny haha it was like 30+ degrees out and this guy is walking around in full denim tucked in long sleeve shirt heavy leather boots and some paper boy hat looking like he stepped out of the legend of bagger vance and he looked a little embarrassed. i think thats what makes workwear larp soi, they never can pull it off and always have a hint of embarrassment that cant be hidden on their face

My felt and straw fedoras sit at about the middle of my forehead while worn straight. I would have to tilt them back to get that effect he has. I think that hat may be worn a size too tight. Usually, they are worn around an inch or so below where he has it.

there's as many fakes as real ones when you try to search for j97s on any used clothing website. alot of people used to say 'oh just buy one with an embroidered company logo so you know it's real." well the chinks are making fake embroidered and weathered ones now too. what I haven't seen faked is a j001. those are the last real detroits before the nu-detroits. they were the stiff unwashed duck and only available in black and regular brown/tan duck though. I got one for cheap and it's nice. the nu-detroits are honestly thicker and warmer than the og ones though.

I get wanting the original, but if it's no longer available just get what you think looks good is nice enough quality wise. I love my red tornado jackets, I have 3 of their Detroits. I would also get the original if it was easily accessible, I have another 4-5 mainline+WIP jackets, but I'm not going to obsess over getting the right shitstained vintage one.

Post a link I have to see this shit. I have seen the NB x car and Stussy x Car cross over embroidered stuff but those are expected.

I can't see them yellows faking Sneed's Fuck and Suck jackets yet. It would be extremely easy to tell if they are fakes.

yeah j01, 6lj, 6blj etc's are safe to buy still i haven't seen fakes. i also see less fakes of the women's j97's. if you don't care about colors just get an early jacket like you said.
or just get the red tornado. you miss out on the wear and the carhartt logo but its pretty much the same thing.

>>18466047
until j97's stop being hyped and overpriced this is what i would do. the only thing stopping me is i need the women's detroit jacket fit.

>>18466116
try ben davis sometime the fit/look is very similar but they last longer before pilling.

I actually like this dude's outfits for the most part but the hat always takes it over the top and put him firmly into larper territory. I get his whole thing is period correct vintage shit but the hat looks like ass regardless. Even without his hat though he has some ugly pompadour or whatever

the way the jacket's cut all slim was inspired by hollywood actors and the original jacket that did that was designed specifically to have worse range of motion and be shit for working in but look really good.
just imagining a guy trying to chop wood wearing that thing without unzipping it is hilarious in its own if you've ever done real work before. you'd know that if you had a man card, bot.
