the trick is to warp the brim a bit with some steam from the kettle, modern hats just look to perfect making look wrong. Don't listen to the boomers the hat will fall apart and you will look like a retard for ages before it breaks in properly

Start plainly. Work your way up from there if you want to, but it is safe and functional to begin plainly. You may or may not want to get a straw version of pic-related before moving onto fur felt or wool felt hats. Fur felt hats are more expensive and generally of better quality than wool felts, which look more coarse and are a bit less durable. Beaver felt, a type of fur felt, is the best and most expensive option.
