The one I just saw required experience in OS locking and applications with java and sepcifically grails, a specific 3 crms and maintaing the databases on these, maintaining the physical sever databases for this including requisitioning, buying, and installing the parts, and then designing a network, requisitioning the parts, pulling the cables, installing it, and then doing a dashboard of all of this. Basically they want a sysadmin who is also a java dev and can write eu facing software not just scripting which would be normal for a sysadmin. Oh and also security complience and dashboard. And you don't get that job title you get network analyst 1 instead.

Then obviously don't even bother applying because those requirements will get you a lot more than a mere $140k elsewhere. Some companies just want cheap labor. Any company can list a shitty job but they won't necessarily fill it.

just 2c from a senior who joins in technical interviews - companies will put the kitchen sink in the "responsibilities" section of any job. this does not mean you will do all of those things daily, but people that do them have the same title. so even though the description has "A, B, C but also X and Y and Z" you may end up in a team that does X and Y, or maybe A and occasionally B. So I wouldn't get discouraged, it's not like you can't just give 2 weeks notice if it really ends up being bullshit.

imo if we go strictly off enjoyment and not other factors like pay/risk/etc:
white collar work for a small business or your own business is the best. blue collar work with earplugs or alone or on a small tight knit crew is 2nd best. corpo ladder sucks outside of the pay. blue collar work with coworkers is the worst -- same vapid yapping as corporate jobs but with a radio blaring butt rock and top 20 all day.

You waste your own time when you fail the background checks after being given an offer

This would be like an author giving an interview about how much they love the keyboard or pen, it's just a tool to do work

You sound like you tried to give white collar work a go and didn't have a good time. It's up to you if you want to stay in blue collar work but I'm sure you are very aware that your financial gains are much lower than they would otherwise be, and earning low 6 figs doesn't go as far as it used to. White collar workers have the potential to retire before 40 or even earlier depending on the numbers that they want to hit, and very often do at some well known firms. Best of luck to you anon

None of that has ever happened to me cuz I don’t work white collar, but I have lots of friends and family members that have done that song and dance more times than they count. I can tell you haven’t applied outside your fake company since Covid. If they’re not doing in person interviews, they’re spamming indeed and praying something hits back even if it pays like shit
Like I said, I don’t believe you claiming to be a millionaire. I’m happy doing what I do I do and already know what I plan to do next when I’m done with construction. I’m flying out to another job on Monday where I’m going to see a bunch of friends I haven’t seen in 3 years and we’re gonna go partying on Friday nights. A new location and seeing old friends or making new ones every few months keeps my life from getting dull

This is accurate. The free money is over. Unless you suckle at the teet of the government and work at a contractor or drink the sweet colorustrum of the fed window in banking the free money from pure malinvestment of cheap money is over.

you understand there's a subset of the population who would rather melon baller their brains out than put up with the sort of passive aggressive bitchmale egotistical narcissistic twats that the corporate world attracts and rewards, right? not having to interact with people like you on a daily basis is well worth the lower pay, lower quality of life, physical wear on our bodies etc. i have all sorts of marketable white collar skills and i also know business but i'm only interested in white collar type work if its for a startup, myself or a small business.
i totally get why you chase the corpo ladder and material reward and the likes. some people have other priorities in life and find less happiness in that and more in other things. i have a lot of friends in their mid to late 30's retiring with millions in the bank, mcmansions etc and yeah i feel jealous sometimes, but it goes both ways they're often jealous of the freedom i have to work whenever i want, no one breathing down my neck, all the time i have to invest in my personal hobbies etc.

i'm probably extremely biased because i grew up around ultra rich people and i noticed some consistent themes: a lot of them have awful taste, a lot of the shit they have doesn't improve their life in any way, more broken homes and fucked up families than the middle class, more drug problems, more deeply unhappy people. there's obviously people i met who were the complete opposite, but i'm just pointing out that i observed these things frequently.
really just using this as an excuse to post this fucking awful $50m mansion i saw on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iNPSwuYVvws
i would genuinely rather live in a tasteful, cozy small single floor rambler or something.
i was looking at $12,000 vintage teak drink coasters the other day and i asked myself: would owning those really improve my life in any way? probably not. but learning some woodworking has numerous times.

I am just also diy and that's the last thing I looked at involving coasters. You will want a swivel knife and some basic stamps from tandy especially bevellers for tooling. Avoid the amazon specials on tools because they will cut and stamp like shit. And a basic soft face mallet is fine for the stamping. If you like the craft then go up to barry king. Warning: harder than it looks.

even the namefag weirdos on this board like vieo and cecil aren't actually all that weird when you consider: they're from washington.
vieo is actually pretty much your bog standard resident.
and i can tell you guys first hand pretty much everyone who grew up in renton, tacoma, spokane, tri cities etc is exactly like cecil. he's a character archetype here. parts of eastern washington have nuclear runoff in their drinking water and parts of south king county used to get arsenic and other chemical exposures raining down on their lawns from the local steel mill before it shut down. there's entire cities here where everyone who grew up there's like cecil.

nahhh and you sound like a nerd.
some of the best workwear fits i've seen are on asian guys who've never picked up a screwdriver.
just look at raw denim, the best fades tend to come from office job guys because their jeans don't get dirty and more of their wear is from abrasion instead of uv.
i can say for certain as a tradie: nobody other than some dork on the internet cares if you wear workwear. most people who do trades are focused on themselves and not really worried about things like what other dudes are wearing. the most thought your average tradie has put into caring if you wear workwear is: "no way, i can sell my old carhartt for HOW MUCH?"

Not at all. Engineers aren’t going anywhere although there isn’t massive demand, their industries aren’t dependent exclusively on a bubble attracting VC funding like CS. As for finance and maths, same situation basically but unlike engineering there is actually high earning potential. Everybody knows quants and investment bankers make a ton of money. Not everybody knows the 2nd or 3rd highest paid employees at most companies are the finance workers. Financial services is quite literally the only career where you can realistically expect to get rich as an average employee in the industry. There are other “good” options: medicine, law, military officers, etc. but they all have significant downsides and less upside potential. CS is possibly the worst choice of all. You’re training into a bubble industry.

some guy and his wife were goofing off throwing cardboard at each other and a piece got caught in the draft from an industrial fan just right, shot across the room and nailed me juuust barely off of my retina.
quick fix brand's worked every time for me. most weed shops and gas stations sell it. their website will tell you if your batch still tests correct. only hard part is finding a microwave quickly. as long as you get the temp right it passes every time and if you fuck up i've heard you usually get a retest if its not government/parole.
you can pass parole drug tests too my friend did it for years with a female PO who stared at his cock the entire time. they sell hyper realistic whizz kits.

every single time the blue collar cuck pulls out the "I got a buddy who..."

the reality of blue collar work is they attract retards who will likely bring you down to their level over time if you're not smart. and guess what, if you're smart enough to rise above the alcoholic, alimony-paying, child-support-owing, massive-truck-financing majority of tradecucks, you would've done just fine in college too.
but more than likely you just end up like one of them, blowing your "huge" paycheck as soon as you get it and maxing out your union wage at 40 and getting nothing but wrecked joints and a nicotine addiction at the end of it.

This. Econ is one of those majors that SOUNDS like it would make money, but doesn't actually. It gets mogged by Finance or Business, under that same umbrella.

tradecucks always have the mentality of "I'm le REAL MAN doing the work you CAN'T do which is why you're paying me 400 DOLLARS AN HOUR", not realizing their lot in life is below the people who can afford to pay someone else to do the dirty work. like, duh I'm gonna call a plumber to snake my drains or an electrician to wire a subpanel, I could do it myself if I felt like watching enough videos and reading code books and burning a month's worth of weekends, but I make triple or quadruple whatever a high school dropout would charge in that time.

Both Econ and Comp Sci have bimodal income distributions. The top bucket of graduates are making absurdly high salaries and many of them go on to become highly successful entrepreneurs as well. The rest of the wagies are unemployed, underemployed, or just not making much.

Statically, econ has a higher employment rate and median salary than 95% of majors though. Only a handful of engineering and healthcare fields have better stars.

I actually did resole boots myself. I did 2 plys of leather for the mids then glued a vibram christy to them. They aren't expensive boots, but clarks stopped selling them. These soles are better then the slippery ass crepes they came with and the old fiberboard midsole.

When companies implement ai anf fire people they then have to hire more people to clean up th ais mess. It's the same thing as outsourcing to indians, no difference.
