Why did this idea become a thing? Who even wears it? People who just walk around on the streets and have nowhere to go? A bunch of loafers and hooligans who just stand around on the streets and up to no good?

It's a style of clothing you are welcome lil sperg, it's hilarious how you low iq mongrels have such a hard time dealing with basic linguistics and the fact that new words emerge over time and existing words change their meaning

streetwear is just a rebranding of casual clothing so people can feel good about dressing in normal clothes.

I don't see what was wrong with calling them "casual wear" like they were always called. It's such an unnecessary rebranding which made things actually worse if you think even a little bit about it.

casual wear is casual. you don't really put much thought into it.

streetwear is all about hype and consumerism. you're putting together fresh fits and waiting in line for exclusive drops.

Hoodies, jerseys, baggy clothes. Stuff that looks cool. Usually has a few accessories like chains and earrings
Itโ€™s what I wear to just about everywhere I go except work since itโ€™s perfect for casual but still gets regular compliments if you pull it off well

No, white t-shirt and blue jeans is basic bitch starter pack in men's clothing. It's as basic as it gets. Casual wear is anything that isn't a suit or your work uniform. Even sports coats and slacks are casual wear. Remote working wagecucks and freeloading nigs who live off of gibs all their lives have destroyed any meaningful classification and utility of clothes, especially after the coof lockdowns.

Hoodies and jerseys are sportswear that belong on the sports field and in the gym. And any type of clothing can be baggy, even suits.

hoodies are workwear more than sportswear if anything. the crewneck was a sports thing and the hood started with people sewing them onto crewnecks for working outside in. its always been a multi use versatile garment.

They probably used to do it to "dress down" a suit for a more casual look. It was pretty popular in the 2nd half of 2000's, especially with hipsters.

>Why did this idea become a thing?
It became a term to describe US urban fashion trends (usually of young black men and inspired by the hip-hop genre) for casual wear during the '80s and '90s. It gained more notoriety as hip-hop culture became more mainstream. It was a more PC than saying "nigger rags" or some shit.

Nothing about suits and sports jackets are casual, at least for me.

Sports jackets were made specifically for casual everyday wear because they are easier to maintain compared to suit jackets, often don't have lining, and come in more casual and rugged fabrics like linen, corduroy, leather, even denim. They are also much more functional than a hoodie, with all the pockets they have everywhere, while also giving you a well-defined silhouette.
>the most basic and cheap shit you can throw on is what I would call casual.
Casual doesn't mean cheap or basic. That kind of mindset is the result of fast fashion consoomerism where quantity is more important than quality.

People wear clothes like this casually too. Depends what they like, but these are street clothes.
Casual is like
>I gotta do a store run and I have basketball shorts with plain white tee. Whatever, nobodyโ€™s gonna be checking me out anyways
People just wanna express themselves and look cool doing it.

>I gotta do a store run and I have basketball shorts with plain white tee. Whatever, nobodyโ€™s gonna be checking me out anyways
No, that's degenerate slob wear. People these days go out for grocery shopping in shorts and dirty t-shirts that they were rolling around in all day because nobody has any shame left in them anymore. There is no such thing as fucking "street clothes". That's a retarded term.
- There's work clothes that you wear for your job.
- Your special occasion fancy clothes like for parties, weddings, or going to an expensive restaurant.
- The slobby old clothes you wear at home because it doesn't matter since you're not meeting people
- And then you have your casual clothes you wear outside on a daily basis when you're off from work. Every time you step out of your house, a civilized man/woman is supposed to put in basic effort in appearing dignified and respectable by wearing decent casual clothes.

>work clothes
I work outside in carpenter pants, long sleeve shirts with hoods and built in UV, and hiking boots. Not exactly my go to for casual weekends
If Iโ€™m doing a convenient store run at like 7:45, I really donโ€™t give a fuck what Iโ€™m wearing. If Iโ€™m high enough, Iโ€™ll wear my robe cuz fuck it.
I had to wear preppy clothes all my life growing up and now I wanna wear street clothes. Itโ€™s not as big of a deal as you make it out to be. I got this shit on and it looks cool

I stopped doing this and now I have purpose-bought loungewear. Why am I making less effort at home? I want to look good for myself, and be comfortable.
