No. I guess not yet (?).
I'm seriously considering it, tax free it's 10300โ‚ฌ new directly from the Wako boutique.
Maybe once I get a steady full time job here. Right now, I just wanted to check it out and man... It's sadly much, much prettier than I expected.
Look at this.

Will I look weird if I use a pocket watch (without the chain)? I don't want a wrist watch because it isn't practical (constant pressure, hand has less freedom, inconvenient when washing hands...) and I don't carry my phone because it's big and heavy.

Kek, thereโ€™s really no such thing as an endgame watch, is there?
There should be a rule that once you declare your latest watch purchase to be โ€œendgameโ€ then you can no longer access watch social media or enter boutiques.

>Which one is this one?
Thereโ€™s only two: /wt/ and /nawt/

This one is faster-moving, has a lot more social posting and allows avatarfagging; however, it tends to be a little angrier and more toxic (some would say, bitter).

/nawt/ is the other thread. Slower, no avatarfagging, except when we raid them when weโ€™re bored. Itโ€™s a little more boring since itโ€™s just talking about watches, which are, letโ€™s be honest, pretty boring.

Tone fair, bitterposting is as tolerated, even encouraged, as frenposting. You really canโ€™t have one without the other. Naturally, it goes without saying that the avatarfags are also some of the bitterest posters ITT. Thatโ€™s what makes this thread fun.

It's my Dad's birthday coming up and I want him to get him a watch as a gift. It's also going to be an heirloom to pass on to his grandson.

I've narrowed search to 2 watches. A Sinn 556 or a Hamilton Khaki.

Does anyone have any experience with a Sinn 556 or Hamilton Khaki Field?

I'm looking for something legible (bad eyesight) and can withstand shocks because my Dad does a lot of gardening and manual labor things.

The Sinn is more expensive but is it better made?

Thanks for the help.

I don't see this particular Sinn as a gift watch. The dial if way too autistic for regular person to enjoy. Hamilton looks better but it's still one of the most basic beaters you can get. Maybe consider something less casual without going full dress.

Plus, itโ€™s got the highest resale, so it would get you closest to that Credor you want. (The Seiko is beat to death and the Tudor and Casio arenโ€™t worth that much even when new.)

If heโ€™s talking about the PRX, probably the H10 which is Hamiltonโ€™s Powermatic or Powermatic 80. Itโ€™s slightly higher end than Tissotโ€™s with 25 jewels instead of 23 (metal escapement and pallet fork instead of plastic) but the issue is the same. Swatch doesnโ€™t give out parts anymore for repair and those movements canโ€™t be self regulated. They are great out of the box but servicing will be a wash. Theyโ€™ll just replace your movement too.

Can you take a nicely centered pic of the Alpinist and the Spirit Zulu?
I know exactly how "big" the Alpinist wears, and that would give me a great comparison.

From this pic at least, the Spirit Zulu looks a lot wider, even though they're both supposedly 39mm

Last picture I'll post. If you're looking to buy it I can only say that so far it feels great. The Seiko Alpinist came with a horrible wristband, and the plastic movement of the compass doesn't feel great. Nor do I like the cyclops that much. The jump in quality between the two is noticable. I still love the Seiko though; it is a great entry-piece for a novice enthusiast like myself. Now that I've bought the Zulu I doubt I'll be buying another watch for at least half a decade, if ever.

It's like brass. And it's a lot more subtle than I thought it would be. Like most I think the promotional pictures have been somewhat detering; they simply made the watch look a bit gaudy. I wasn't planning to buy this version before I went into the shop, but now I'm glad they had it.

They had it, but I only tried the green bezel one before I noticed the Jubilee version. Can't tell you much about it.
Since I had bought my previous watches there I asked if they'd be willing to offer me a discount, and they were kind enough to shave the cost down by roughly 300 dollars.

I'm glad you asked because the only watch brand that matters is the one that Japanese women like and respond to. This watch (pic related, Tudor Black Bay Ceramic. It looks big on her cute little wrist, yes) was the only one that mi**-san said is cool and wanted to try it on. Tsumari, Tudor is the only brand that actually matters in this world.
If your watch does Not get you Jap Pussy, then you got the wrong watch. Simple as.

Not directly watch related but I thought I'd let people know. To anyone who's going to Japan to buy watches during summer, you should avoid any sports drink that claims to protect from heat illness, including the popular pocari sweat. You should opt for pic related instead. It's comparatively expensive at around 220ยฅ and it's not available in vending machines (that's why it probably works) but it's your best bet to avoid any dizziness and ir even cures hangovers.
Take care.

k1 are seikos made outside japan. j1s are made inside japan.
it used to be that J1s were of a superior quality, better finish, better quality control. nowadays i don't think there is much material or quality difference between j1s and k1s but J1s still fetch a higher price in the used market, if for no other reason than it has "made in japan" printed on the dial and case.
I paid about ยฃ100 less than i should have for the watch.

what budget brand has the best build quality and finish?
i want a beater watch. ill probably go with diver style and i cant decide if id be better off with something like "homage" san martin or steinhart (basically sub replica) or something more original like citizen promaster or orient mako/ray with sapphire glass

i can compare pictures and specs all day, but in the end the most important thing to me is how well made it feels and that is something that you cant find out without handling them all. so im asking you guys.

You answered your own question, Grand Seiko is known to have great finishing, you can get a quartz one almost new at $1500.
But 1 the difference is at the macro level, you can't see it with your eyes, and 2, once your wear the watch a week, the zaratsu is already scratched. What's the point?

I'd rather chose watches that age well, that alternate brushing and polishing, that don't have too much scratchable surfaces and so on, that's smarter imo.

>>18475563
Tudor finishing is meh, they have many QC problems, misaligned indices and so on.

It's the SRPG17. I've no idea what my wrist size is but the case of this watch is slightly smaller than the normal turtle. It has the same dimensions as the captain willard. It's 42mm lug to lug but wears much smaller. Most 42mm watches look too big on my wrist.
