The Fragrance Flowchart for Beginners
First for SOTD 10 sprays Rien Intense Incense
>>18472468>only 10 spraysngmi
>>18472468>basedshould I sample/buy Intense Incense if I already have a bottle of the original Rien?
>>18472484I think they're close enough to be a little redundant. It's like Rien with the EQ turned up on the incense and leather and down on the soapy top notes. The effect is similar.
>>18472280Technically, Comme des Garçons is a designer brand too and they make some weird shit
But yeah, of the big designer brands you can find in any Sephora, Hermes is the most original nowadays.
No blue frags, no sweet clubbers. Probably helps that they're independent and not part of some conglomerate like LVMH
Wtf this smell a lot like Xerjoff's Monkey Special, it's very rum-heavy and I barely detect any tobacco notes
>>18471393I'm going to buy Day Three Del Mar thanks to Anon here. Would it be considered a summer fragrance?
Nocturnis from Pineward met expectations and I am interested in other fragrances with similar notes as it
This is the best fragrance I've ever worn. Projection is incredible and gets more compliments than anything else.
This is the best fragrance I've ever worn. Projection is incredible and gets more compliments than anything else.
>>18472460 (OP)What is the best Guerlain fragrance?
I've never bought anything from them before.
>>18472566Mitsouko is considered the Mona Lisa of perfumes and the best fragrance ever made by Luca Turin.
>>18472569>by Luca Turinmust be shit then
>>18472543Try before you buy, he's a shill and it's quite femine.
>>18472566>Vetiver (EDT)>Heritage (EDT)>Habit Rouge (EDT)>Mitsouko (EDT)>Homme (EDP)these are all great frags, there's more ofc
>>18472577why the hate boner, anon? did he fuck your mother or what?
>>18472578What would you suggest? There's a perfume shop near me that happens to carry Day Three Del Mar to try out
Kouros >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> shit >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> everything else >>>>>>>>>>>>> Antaeus
>>18472585that's a shit take (no pun intended)
>>18472589ok saarvage wearing prick.
>>18472585but why? Antaeus is good. less divisive than Kouros I think, it's a bit animalic but not pissy or dirty
>>18472600>not pissy>not dirtyah, so a w*men's fragrance.
do fragrances contain pissy notes so that you can say "it's just my cologne" when you're old and pissed yourself?
>>18472599you got it wrong, both kouros and antaeus are fucking great (ofc better than sauvage elixir and waaaay better then the other sauvage frags)
>>18472604>t. retard>>18472606no
Favorite tea fragrances? This and Green Tea are my two go tos right now. Technically Silver Mountain Water also has a tea note, but I don't detect it as much. Anything else I should try?
I don't need any sweetslop besides this. Insanely good for the price.
Is general still in its contrarian phase? Is it still praising the same 4-5 fragrances from the 80s that smell like cat piss and balls?

>>18472584Try all the Day Three, it's a nice experience since they all smell nice, they just don't all work for everyone. Unfortunately I'm in a vintage/discontinued kick so my favorite summer fragrance is Mary Kay Quattro, but I recommend you try any fougere you can get your hands on to see if you like them.
>>18472616well seeing as I only have one I guess I gotta say the one I own so victoire
>>18472624No, it's on the mainstream phase, just buy the latest candyass gourmand "masculine" flanker from any designer, they are all the same. No discussion allowed.
>>18472616nicolai fig tea
>>18472632when has that ever happened here?
>>18472632>just buy the latest candyass gourmand "masculine" flanker from any designerI just checked 20 fragrance threads from the archive and almost no post is about that
>No discussion allowed. There has never been any discussion here other than calling popular things 'slop'. Any deviation from the general's hivemind is harshly screeched about
>>18472624It's as shit as ever.
>>18472579Turin is an insider, jew, shill, plant, and I never trust a jew. All true by the way.
does fragflex ever get 30mls in for elod stuff?
Should I cop a Y le parfum before they get phased out for the 2025 reformulation

Thoughts on Le Labo? I’ve got Another 13 and love how clean and subtle it is. Thinking about picking up Gaiac 10 when the city exclusives drop in August.
Tried Santal 33 and thought it was overrated, but there’s something about Le Labo’s musks and woody drydowns that’s seriously addictive.
I tend to prefer lighter, inoffensive scents which are more intimate.

Yeah, a lot of it is overpriced hipster stuff, but they do have a few standout fragrances.
Another 13, Gaiac 10, and The Noir 29 are genuinely great.

>>18472720>>18472722>>18472723Reddit used to have some weird quirk where to get a line break you had to hit the enter key twice. On 4chan (and almost every scenario other than reddit) that would result in a 2 line break. So someone posting the way you did would identify themselves as a habitual reddit user. Wasn't really a big deal back in the 00's before 4chan and reddit userbases had a ton of crossover and no-one cars. At some point reddit became tumblr and 4chan became reddit, and redditor became a slur, 2016 newfag tourists found out about reddit spacing (which was no longer really a thing because reddit didn't require you to hit enter twice any more) and the term took off massively before dying off again in the last few years. It got pretty retarded because more and more newfags would come here (ironically from places like reddit and facebook) and use the green redditapacing incorrectly to anyone using paragraphs with no actual understanding of what it was.
>>18472543It’s 100% a summer fragrance, and as
>>18472578 mentioned, try before you buy. If you purchase an online discovery set they’ll take the price of the discovery set off of a full bottle.
>>18472584 that’s even better!
As for this similar to Nocturnis (glad you liked it), I’d have to think for a bit, will update you later if I think of anything.

Is Guerlain designer or niche? Feels like is in it's own category.
Any cheap but ok burnt caramel frags for males with penises?
>>18473145the whole designer vs niche categorisation is dumb and useless nowadays
anyway they make some beauty products and have a long tradition of perfumery instead of being created by some investment firm two years ago, so they don't fit the modern definition of "niche"

>>18473180Especially with Kouros. That's like the pinnacle of "I am having a lot of sex" fragrance.
>>18473181More like last time I've had sex George Bush Senior just got elected fragrance.
>>18472703Worst case scenario if you use the wrong frag or overspray you'll look "inept" or "beginner-ish" rather than really "creepy".
If you deliberately use the "wrong" frag for a social situation you have to have a good skill level because if not you'll look not only inept, but also "try-hard" and awkward/embarrassing. Push much farther past this point and we start to get into "creepy" territory proper.
Don't understand people who think 2 sprays is enough.
I have some pretty strong frags and even those I will do 6 to 10 sprays, 20-30 for the weaker frags.

>>18473145Designer means "fashion designer", Guerlain is not a fashion designer. Niche means "not-designer" so Guerlain is niche, technically. None of that matters today because they are owned by the LVMH conglomerate which owns a bunch of designer brands so effectively Guerlain today functions as a designer fragrance.
All that matters is if a brand is independent and able to make their own choices or if they are owned by a conglomerate which jews their fragrances for every cent removing all value and worth from their fragrances.

>>18473440>much superior in qualityNo, usually not true. Most of them aren't like Frederic Malle where the idea was to get top perfumers to design perfumes with almost full creative freedom, the highest quality materials and no budget or marketing restrictions from the label.
>scent and uniquenessNo, most niche fragrances are basically just more expensive clones of classic designer fragrances. Most of them aren't unique or creative.
>>18473440Niche are just brands that focus solely one thing, in this case fragrances whereas designers usually have clothes, makeup, etc... So it makes sense that niche would be higher quality, but typically while they are higher quality and may smell better to a trained nose they usually take more artistic liberty; designers usually go safe routes that smell good and try to make flankers that are similar to sucessful scents. Sometimes designers will make unique scents but they still are very mass appealing and not 'daring'. So while niche may smell better to a snob, designer will smell better to most people who can't detect the layers and nuances of more intricate scents. Obviously this isn't always the case and you can have niche that just suck or are trying to be people pleasing or cheap to make money, there are always exceptions.
Niche is Reddit, designers are 4chan

>>18473773Very, very likely to be fake, or at best someone selling decants of his stuff. He has his own dedicated website where he sells his fragrances, his discovery set, and there’s no option for select decants, so strongly doubt he would only offer that option on a 3rd party site like Etsy.

>>18473306>muh pajeetsEvery time
>>18473799I find the opposite to be true. Any niche fragrance that doesn't outperform designer doesn't stick around for long (no pun intended). It makes sense since the people buying niche are already into fragrance and they are looking for things they can brag about its performance. It gets to the point that most of the major niche brands are hyperfocused on sillage and longevity. Which is another reason why so many of them smell similar, they all rely on base ingredients that last the longest like ambrox and vanillin. Bois Imperial lasts 3 fucking days, Tauer's Heraud and Sundowner have vanilla bases that you will smells on clothes weeks later, same for Day Three's Aylan. That's just a couple of stuff I have sampled but you can see all the big niche brands are known for their good performance. Everyone has the same access to cheap and ridiculously long lasting aromachemicals. Designers are top heavy, they have to make a sale on the first sniff at the mall. Niche has to offer performance per dollar to the collectors who already have huge collections, so they can spread by word of mouth and review sites.

>>18474034He’s like any other artisanal brand, a couple really big hits and a bunch of mid filler. Grab his discovery set and decide for yourself, his stuff is certainly worth that much.
>>18474095Chanel doesn’t do discounts - ever.
Even on big sales holidays like Black Friday in the US when department stores advertise “Everything 15 to 30% off!” the Chanel items will only be the minimum amount discounted, and it’s actually the department store eating the price difference themselves, not because Chanel is actually selling things at a discount.
They also never go to discounters - ever.
Chanel controls it’s own distribution and any company that they allow to sell their goods is forced to sign a contract that any existing stock that doesn’t sell is returned to Chanel and re-circulated if not old, or destroyed if expired. It’s also part of the reason you don’t see Chanel on decant sites. Chanel actively seeks out people reselling their product (mostly decants, rarely but also occasionally partially used products) and will Cease&Desist them on threat of legal action. If they don’t comply they take them to court and ruin them.
I believe Louis Vuitton has similar practices, never goes on sale, never goes to discounters. They would rather destroy unsold product rather than allow them to be sold at reduced prices so as to keep them ‘exclusive’.

I'm finally done buying arabslop clones after maybe 1/4 of the ones I buy (which are supposedly amazing 90% accurate beautiful recreations) end up being decent at all. Most end up being underwhelming or straight up headache inducing.
Turns out gambling $120 on 4 or 5 clones every other month to only like one isn't better than paying more for something I know I like. Wild.
I've got some samples coming in, Goldfield & Banks Pacific Rock Moss and Bohemian Lime, as well as PDM Greenley and LV Imagination.
Anything else I should check out? I'm looking for something fresh, clean, and summery. Right now I'm mostly wearing Dylan Blue, Explorer, and Encre Noire Sport

Help me out /frag/. I am looking for a unisex scent, not sophisticated, I don't want something complicated, nor a crowd pleaser. I want this frag to be for the colder months as I already have Eau de Guerlain and Acqua di Parma Colonia for the summery scent. I want something simple, with few, well made ingredients, something that lasts on the skin well and has an intimate to medium sillage as I don't want to announce my presence with a fragrance. I like freshies but I think it's time to change so I am looking for something along the lines of floral or something with heavy oud, I have no idea. I dislike powdery scents and old school fougeres.

I’m the one who bought the Rasasi La Yuqawam. Just did first spray. The opening has a more sweet raspberry than the real Tuscan Leather. Otherwise it’s pretty close, just a bit sweeter overall. Doesn’t smell as expensive. 8/10 as of now in terms of being close to the original. Maybe it gets better later on. Anyway I’m shelving this for the next couple of months I have too much shit right now. Maybe it gets better later on.
