they are the #1 strictest beauty standard in the world, apparence is extremely important in south korea, so everyone cares about looking good and put in the effort
>>18476302 idk, if u watch street interview videos with regular ppl from korea and japan just walking around a decent amount of them are average or ugly. i think it's more that in media there's less opportunities for normal looking people than there is in other countries...like in america if you're kinda busted you can still be a character actor but korean celebs and idols all have to get plastic surgery to be able to compete with each other
>>18476391 korea gets by far the most plastic surgery out of any country. they are obsessed with apparence, even if you think they’re ugly. this is why they also obsess over clothing
this isn’t something you can go >hmm idk over, it’s literally true, and very simple they care a lot so they try a lot
>>18476404 im not saying this isn't true, i just don't think it's true of the entire population. what we see as foreigners isn't always representative of the average person. >even if you think they’re ugly i think you have a very black-and-white mindset. i never said all koreans are ugly, i said not all of them are ridiculously beautiful and fashionable, which is true. normal people exist everywhere and even in cultures that are more appearance-focused, the average joe is going to be the average joe
