they are the #1 strictest beauty standard in the world, apparence is extremely important in south korea, so everyone cares about looking good and put in the effort

idk, if u watch street interview videos with regular ppl from korea and japan just walking around a decent amount of them are average or ugly. i think it's more that in media there's less opportunities for normal looking people than there is in other countries...like in america if you're kinda busted you can still be a character actor but korean celebs and idols all have to get plastic surgery to be able to compete with each other

im not saying this isn't true, i just don't think it's true of the entire population. what we see as foreigners isn't always representative of the average person.

i think you have a very black-and-white mindset. i never said all koreans are ugly, i said not all of them are ridiculously beautiful and fashionable, which is true. normal people exist everywhere and even in cultures that are more appearance-focused, the average joe is going to be the average joe
