I get why wigs are more common unfortunately. More women locking up though, it's nice to see natural hair being embraced more. You can do a lot with them, I see black emo girls style them into the side sweep

As a man who is as pale as milk, despite how easily I get sunburned, one thing I'm grateful for is how easy my straight hair is to take care of. I can even grow it out long as hell like to the middle of my back (and have) and it's still easy as fuck to take care of.
I do NOT envy the amount of maintenance my Black friends have to do with their hair. It sounds like hell. Like just so many things to take into account. Including but not limited to having to shop for special shampoos and conditioners for curly/coily hair. Meanwhile I can literally just pick up any $1 shampoo and use that.

Good question. In the 90s, even for black Americans, they were associated with being a dirty, druggy, broke, hippie/Rastafarian. I think it got caught up in the general wave of purposely changing the public opinion of natural black hair and natural black hairstyles. Being able to wear your hair naturally in professional and academic settings, which led to people putting more effort into taking care of their natural hair and hairstyles. Locs today vs locs back in the day are different beasts in terms of care. People go to much better at forming locs, grooming locs, and styling locs. I had a handful of teachers that had locs and wearing their hair loc'd was a political statement for them. They were all black progressives, so the messaging of not shaming black people for not wanting to straighten or relax their hair, or wear it cut very short actually worked.

>afro hair is too much work it'll never be long
Lies. That's all a scam. In reality our Boomer and Gen X parents failed us by switching to relaxers or synthetic feed-in extentions for their daughters and shaving to the scalp in that dorky perma bald style for their sons, so they didn't teach us how to love and care for our real hair.

Like many misguided youngsters I used to think my only cope for having long real hair was locs, but afro hair is much simpler to take care of and grow long than false hair gurus want us to believe. I've learned wearing the hair in simple, gentle styles like natural braids or twists, blowouts, or rollersets that keep the strands from tangling too much is pretty much all that's needed, as well at wrapping it at night. All the extra stuff we're accustomed to is what's breaking our hair off, or ridiculous myths like we need to "trim" off an inch of hair every 4-6 weeks.

Oh yeah speaking of stylists, a lot of them are jealous and evil, and sabotage any black person with long or pretty hair. I've been a victim, and countless other people have been too. In particular I'm never letting an african or carribbean stylist touch my head again because they rip my hair out in chunks, and cut way too much off. Seeing young attractive black girls with long hair triggers their self-hatred so they try to ruin what you have because they gave up on themselves. My hair is flourishing since I started doing it all myself.

Well, enough of my vent posting. I have a lot of resentment about this topic, but things have gotten a lot better now. Black people have naturally gorgeous hair that's been sabotaged with neglect for generations. Whenever I see young people like in this vid out in the wild it gives me a bit of hope for the next gen to not be raised in total ignorance about their hair.

That's surprising, all the black people I knew that had very long hair were Caribbean or African. I agree for the most part, I have long hair and it makes me sad seeing other black people complimenting my hair in a way that implies that growing long hair is impossible, there is a lot of self hatred in the community. I'm at least happy that relaxers are dying out in younger generations

Where do you live? Iโ€™m on the west coast tbf and there arenโ€™t really that many black people outside of LA and the Bay Area in the first place, so I donโ€™t really see that many black girls in the first place and I really donโ€™t see black girls with Latino guys. The only mixed race couples including a black person I see is black guy/white girl. I just assume black girls want to date Lebron looking mfs

I live in the east coast in an area with a high black and Latino population, black girl/Latino guy is the most common interracial relationship for black women. Black women find Latino men attractive, and culturally they are adjacent so her family will generally be accepting. Plus black women are starting to date out more in general, the shift in attitude happened sometime around 2020. Honestly the biggest thing blocking you might be that there aren't that many black people in your area.

Black women are dating outside of their race out of necessity. Whether itโ€™s because of incarceration, being murdered, or pursuing woman of every race other than their own, black men have almost completely abandoned black women. I honestly wonโ€™t be surprised if thereโ€™s an explosion of black femcels within a few decades.

This is already happening, especially among nerdy black girls. Black men still overwhelmingly date within their race, but the gender balance is pretty bad. For every 100 black women there is 88 black men, and for ages 18-64, there is 81 black men to 100 black women
