Let's summon OmegaDrunk.
You know the drill.
This is an accumulation of the Internet's wealthiest and most knowledgeable watch enthusiasts. You can take advantage of that fact by asking niche and very obscure questions, you can join us by posting wristshots, coffee, grail watches and anything in-between, OR you can simply asks us for recommendations and thoughts on X watch.
Keep it civilized, this is a gentlemans hobby after all.
>>18477155 (OP)Just got this Chronoswiss perpetual calendar for such a steal. Itโs from 1997 I believe. 36mm. Looks a lot different in person. The depth and some of the finishing doesnโt seem to show up in pictures.

>>18477227Good morning.
>>18477229I'm intrigued to say the least. First time I see or hear of this brand. Would you mind going into detail?
I just don't get it. The numerals are ugly as hell
>>18477232Have you seen in in person? It looks much better irl. It's just a great daily beater that won't lose its value. The 3 numerals give it exactly the personality it needs to stand out as "ah, it's THAT watch". That's why it's probably the most copied watch design/dial of all time.
Would you prefer something like pic related?
>>18477234actually, looking at this picture of it on someone's wrist explains it perfectly. now it makes a lot more sense
>>18477221I thought this was spring drive...
>>18477234Every watch looks much better in person than in pics.
Those numerals are still horrendous. They look like a cheap sci fi font
>>18477231>Would you mind going into detail?they are known for their finishing and beguet-esque styling. Its a bit more vintage inspired. They stopped making good stuff like 10-15 years ago. But the older stuff has decent resale value. priced the same or a little higher than rolex during the time.
I know all you idiots do all day is circlejerking and pretending this is a discord server, but hopefully you can at least answer one simple question:
what's a "fine" and small watch, 36mm or less, that's available in gold and looks good on a leather strap?
Something like a two tone DJ or a Tank (though I'm not the biggest fan of either) or a Calatrava ref discontinued 50 years ago.
I don't care if it's a woman's watch, a Lady DJ or a Panthere, as long as it looks refined and not very loud.
>>18477231Chronoswiss amd Temption were created by poaching Enicar's assets after their closure.
Ever since, they've been dping fancy casing for ETAs with the odd complication module every now and then.
>>18477291The logo looks shitty and should be applied and in polished metal. The indices and hands are uninspired too. Striking dial though, i'll give you that.
>>18477292>Enicar'sI always picture a car and not a watch whenever i hear that name.
>>18477297The backlight-lume on the hands is cool though.
>>18477299You're thinking of this watch i assume... The Morpho doesn't have lume, the dial is shiny enough, and all the markers, een the minute ones, are applied.
>>18477302No, you can see it on the photo you posted : the lume is on the back of the hands and pokes out a bit.
>>18477307I'm sorry, but i can't and as far as i know Morpho doesn't have lume.
>>18477314>>18477314There were a couple of different models but i don't think any of them had lume.
>>18477316I was talking about the Awake, you can see it on there
>>18477291,the white-ish border of the hands is the lume. It's on their lacquer and stone dial models.
>>18477318Oh i see, that's neat yeah.
>>18477300>rather than a Calatrava Def discontinued 50 years ago, why not this GS ref discontinued 60 years ago?
>>18477370The more people buy GS and post them here, the less our frens will feel like they were the only ones who got tricked.
Why do you think Credor is being shilled so incredibly hard here and literally nowhere else on the internet?
Behold the omega dynamic 3 special Japan only release. This was produced in the late 90s to early 2000s which is during the first time I lived in Japan. Case size is not not Xbox hueg and the lume isnโt some dainty bullshit. This is the real deal lume right here boys. Waffle blue dial and steel case combo reminds you of the optimist future we had in the 2000s way before doomers and gloomers. Got it full box and papers for $1.2k. Had to go through a lot of JDM releases to settle on this watch which marks my 10 year work anniversary and I also plan to wear it on my wedding in Japan.
>>18477404>hugely lumed dial>miniscule, barely lumed hands >sold only in the country that has no concept of proportion and design It tracks. Congratulations on getting married.

>>18477283Blancpain Villeret from the 90s/2000s.
Come in gold and in steel.
The triple calendar versions also exist int two-tone.
The Leman is nice if you want something that looks more modern.
You have a bunch of complications across the range, all in slim and small diameter cases. Calendar, chronos, small seconds or central seconds, power reserve.
All of these sell for peanuts when you consider that the movements they have were also used by AP at the time.
Unfortunately the current models have gone full dinnerplate mode, which is a shame because the proportions of the original 34mm models are just right.
>>18477289That's pretty based. Are these still made in Russia? Might buy one for support.

>>18477683Where did you get the strap?
>>18477689Actually, this 61GS is the only one made in the 60's
The other one is KS 45-7001, which has pretty mint cosmetic condition, but wasn't running. It's at the watchmaker now.
And I have only one nice 18mm strap, the rest are stuck in the customs.
>>18477697And this Credor is neo-vintage at best. But it's so fucking good.
>>18477695Fluco
>>18477697That's a strap monster!
>>18477697Nice, i prefer the 61GS to the 44GS. The variant with the ridge down the middle is especially nice, i'm surprised GS hasn't used ot yet, it would work as the 'integrated bracelet' meme as well...
>>18477664wouldn't the "greatest sports watch ever" have to be something with quartz, with its inherently better shock and weather resistance?

why are rolex owners degenerate?
>>18477811your "friend" is wrong
>>18477811I had one and wasn't the biggest fan, but that's probably more not liking dive watches in general than it being a "bad" watch. It also ran a bit slow, and mechanical movements that run slow are much more of a pain in the ass than ones that run fast
>>18477831 Weird, the ones I know are hard working people usually with hard earned honest money. I don't like Rolex but I never met an owner who isn't genuinely successful.
>>18477829As a Tudor owner and fan myself, you did well. They're very robust and accurate watches. But, do me favour, and this isn't a reverse psychology attempt, but please do never, Never do macro shots of your dial. You will not enjoy what you're going to see. The QR is worse than many sub 500$ brands.
Dial detail and finishing isn't whu you get a Tudor, that's true, but just in case.
>>18477840I donโt get what you mean by the dial. The weird half sunburst effect was a nice surprise. T-fit clasp is awesome I didnโt know I would use it as much as I do.

>>18477840He's a fintech bro, just a degenerate.
>>18477844That thing is sick
>>18477835Can you elaborate a bit on the slow movement thing?
>>18477872>Can you elaborate a bit on the slow movement thing?mechanical movements are a crapshoot. they either gain seconds, or lose seconds every day. if you get one that runs fast, it's great because even if it's not entirely accurate, you're not going to be late to things. if you get one that runs slow, you're going to end up just checking your phone instead, because you can't actually rely on it to do what it's supposed to do.
it's basically a 50/50 shot which type you're going to get, if you get any mechanical
>>18477908Nta but why are watches predominately skewed towards being fast? For example -3/+6 spd
>>18477811it's a nice watch. your friend is a retard. protip no one cares about your watch. at all. only 2 things matter, 1 do u like it, 2 is it comfortable to wear on your hand.
>>18477834metal looks like ass, can't even tell if it's polished or what either way it needs brushing.
>>18477913Why would you want a watch that runs slow? Fast running watch is more convenient. All you have to do to sync it is stop the movement. Watches also typically run slower when actually wearing it due to different angles, shock and such.
>>18477298If they had called themselves Eniwatch, they'd still be in business.

I canโt deny that Seiko makes some nice watches but man they are such a pain in the fucking ass. How do people even decide which grand Seiko to buy when they are all inspired by random lakes and trees in Japan? And why do all the king Seiko bracelets looks 10x better than the grand Seiko bracelets? And theyโve raised prices like three times in 12 months. Prices are way too high. Pic related this watch is inspired by the shifting ice formations on Lake Suwa. Who is buying this shit? $8,900 for stainless steel with no complications what in the fuck.
Don't buy new Seiko, buy vintage.
>>18477986They're regulated like that on purpose, the properties of the movement dictates the delta between the slowest acceptable rate and the fastest one and then they give a range knowing that it will be regulated to be a little fast
a -3/+6 movement is perfectly capable to be a -9/+0 movement

what were previously difficult to parse tables full of numbers could be easily turned into pie charts and bar graphs that were much easier to interpret and make sense of.
when we look at a text interpretation of time it definitely makes sense, but when you look at a clock face it's as if the minute hand is creating a pie chart of how far into the hour you are, and the hour hand is creating one of how far into the half of the day you are. you can instantaneously get a sense of where you are in the passage of time.

Then there's the poorfag thread that pops up every now and then for the connaisseurs of Aliexpress, which kind of makes sense. Not much sense in making discussion of sub-150 bucks chinaman specials with Rolex vs Omega debates. IT's obvious there isn't going to be much overlap in the participants to these two discussions.
>>18480192 No, it really is helpful for understanding the passage of time. A digital display makes it much faster and easier to read the exact time down to the second if you really need to do that for some reason, but reading a number doesn't necessarily convey the whole story of how time is moving and how fast you are moving through the job or whatever. Analog hands act like a progress bar and creates a visual of how much time has passed this hour, how much time is left in the hour, how far the hands have moved since the last time you looked, and so on. Maybe you don't appreciate that, that's fine, but there are a lot of interesting ways to process information that work better for different people.

>>18480241What are you the lore keeper?
>>18480284What you're seeing is whoretadello's buddies reposting stuff and putting it in their pile of repostable pasta because they think it's funny, and because if messages that make them look bad end up as pasta, then everyone is going to ignore it.
who is whoretardello and how does he own this thread?
>>18480179A small coterie appears to treat this general as their private Discord enclave, incessantly reposting their own photographs and unamusing pasta, which has become tiresome to all, whilst rapidly generating threads through excessive blogposting, again behaving as if this space solely belongs to them. They create new threads a full thirty posts before reaching the bump limit, further exemplifying their possessiveness. Consequently, /nawt/ was established as a refuge for discerning watch enthusiasts seeking discourse free from interruptions caused by reposted images, unoriginal memes, or blogposts. Additionally, a modest thread dedicated to the frugal connoisseurโthose interested in Aliexpress offeringsโoccasionally arises, which is understandable. It is, however, rather perplexing to see debates about sub-$150 Chinese timepieces, such as comparisons between Rolex and Omega, as the participant overlap between these discussions is minimal, rendering them somewhat disconnected in purpose and audience.

>>18480303"Whoretadello"A name that struck fear and rage in the heart of the bitter. A man who lived a life of luxury and excess, surrounded by beautiful Japanese women, sushi and nice watches. But what made him truly infamous was his ability to make the bittercel seethe, simply by existing. No one knew much about him, only that he was Greek and had an uncanny resemblance to an anime character, Yuta Okkotsu. He had left his empty life in Germany to pursue his dream of finding a society that fit his outgoing lifestyle, his calm character and his love for cars. He found this in Japan.
Every once in a while,he would grace the /wt/ thread with his presence, posting pictures of his latest expensive watch, delicious meal or delicious woman. Without fail, bittercel would come out of the woodwork within literal seconds, spewing hate and insults towards him. Jealous of his lifestyle and his endless supply of beautiful japanese women. But Whoretadello had allies too. Those who admired his carefree attitude and his impeccable taste and those of similar, if not greater statue such as Omegadrunk and The Citizen The Citizen-poster that would bless the threads with their signature posts. United, they would defend him against the bittercel, causing heated arguments but also providing deep knowledge and detailed conversations about watches.
No one knew how he managed to live such a life in Japan, but rumors started to spread that he was involved in human trafficking. Some even speculated that he was a member of the Yakuza. But no one could prove anything. As time went on, bittercels hatred towards him only grew stronger. Some even went as far as to try and dox him, but he always seemed to be one step ahead, becoming untraceable. And when he returned, it was always with a new watch and a new beautiful woman by his side.
The mystery of Whoretadello only added to his allure and his power over /wt/.
Living rent free in the heads of the Bitter, he marches on to spread his seed across Japan.

I was buying some crap off of aliexpress and came across the rabbithole that are chinese watches, checked out some Youtube reviews and found that they're basically microshitter equivalents except you can buy a baker's dozen and still spend less than you would on a Europeen microshitter, why the fuck do they all have shit branding though? how dumb would it be to buy restored weekdater for around 500 bucks when i can get a brand new cocktail time for the same price?
ive been looking at modern seikos and i cant shake the feeling that they look too blingy like a cheap mall watches. it's impossible to find an everyday model with bracelet and simple black dial unless you spend 2000 on cheapest GS quartz. if by any chance there is something interesting it is JDM only
god i hate japs so much bros
>>18481140The ~$500-700 weekdaters always seem fishy to me, some look polished and they never talk about how it runs/recent service. You should be able to find a good weekdater, with pics of the movement and recent servicing, for under $400. I agree though, I have a weekdater addiction because they look so much better than modern seiko. Just wait for the weekdater anon he knows his stuff.
>>18480778are you a pilot?
>>18481140the blingy ones are the old seiko5 because of the cheap indexes and hands
cocktail time is super nice in real life and in pictures it looks unremarkable, what's good is eventually you can just swap the movement with nh35 if you have to so service is simple and cheap.
no point to get week dater unless you want a week dater.
also the bracelet on those newer seikos is comfortable and I have had no issues with it except for the clasp which might open accidentally but I suppose it could be changed

>>18481140Just don't buy one with a polished case. It's better if it's a bit beaten up than it is looking like a half licked Werther's Originals. The lugs should have sharp angles.

I'm new to watches, but so far I've gotta say there are a couple of watches I'd really like if they didn't have a compass. What percentage of Seiko Alpinist owners have ever used the compass as anything more than a novelty/show-trick? I'm guessing less than .1%. Is the compass there only to draw in larpers who have aspirations of being an outdoorsman and want to spend money to satisfy that but don't actually want to put in any effort?
>>18481848>Bros' looking for an objective reason for "why X watch has Y feature"Bro...
Because it's cool. That's it.
>>18481850In my opinion it's the opposite of cool. Maybe someone will eventually come out with a sniper's watch with rangefinding capabilities, then you could pretend to be a sharpshooter. Wouldn't that be cool?
>>18481852Way to miss the point. Sorry I don't talk to low iq individuals.
Are Holzkern watches really built like shit? I heard their wood watches are memes but I love the look of this one that apparently doesn't have any. Is there anything similar to this?

Though laboratory animal research continues to pose ethical questions, particularly with respect to animal welfare, the scientific achievements linked to lab rats are innumerous. - well established that finasteride reduces the size of the prostate, which is also male reproductive tissue by 20%.

It's very shiny from certain angles. It's hard to take good photos of it with my potato mobile, i'll try and take a few better ones outside later. The color of the dial reminds me of the 'Winter' 62GS from the seasons collection, it's gray and silver and there's a touch of gold and cream in there.

>>18482059Less than a new Cocktail Time, shipping, taxes and customs included. For a 60 year old watch it looks damn fine.
Don't ask me questions about watches. I don't get paid enough to answer watch questions, nor would I be able able to answer most of these questions without doing time-consuming research.
>>18482083cocktail time is better tho
>>18481909They're bad. Really bad.
They're some of these really cheap fromt-loader watches without removable bezel. Basically, the movement is cased into a case with a back opening much smaller than the dial, then the glass is put into place and seals the whole thing. So if something other than the battery goes wrong, you have to remove the crown and either pop the glass out with pressured air or just break it.
Horrible stuff.
