I have to go to court next Monday. The only long sleeved collared shirt I have is a denim one. Think this is appropriate enough? I already have subdued colored slacks and black leather boots to complete it.
Unless you're an attorney, nobody expects you to dress any certain way. Any collared shirt will do, but when I was a prosecutor people showed up in t-shirts daily.
It depends a little what kind of court proceeding it is and also whether you're a witness or accused or whatever you're there for.
>>18477796Thank you for the input. I'm one of 5 people/organizations being sued over a traffic incident. It's nothing major but I want to look serious.
>>18477799If you want to be taken seriously, dress appropriately. Appropriate for court is a dress shirt and dress slacks with dress shoes. An oxford shirt tucked into khaki chinos is acceptable. You might be able to wear a polo and be seen as appropriate. Anything less than that and you’re not within advisable dress code, but like the other guy said it’s a court so they see the gamut. People show up in pajamas. Unless you are dressed like a total slob they won’t hold it against you.

Just make it look like you're taking it seriously, it doesn't have to be stylish. Many judges will absolutely be harsher on you if you show up dressed like you don't give a fuck. It's a sign of respect, and if you show up and want them to side with you then show that respect.
