The Land Dweller would be a 10/10 with a different dial. There's no reason to have the Explorer numerals if you have a date, that was a weird choice. Just make it simple:
>applied indices
>matte dial
>date or no date
I still haven't had the chance to try one. But everyone who has say it looks better IRL and sits well on the wrist.

the additional weight and height of the case and the nylon strap work OK in water - not so much on dry land (nylon gets dirty instantly and rubber is awful as well) as such it makes no sense to wear this as a daily. in fact next to me is a replica from china and it's impossible to wear without a good bracelet. in current year it's overrated and expensive.
>>18478840Because 99% of the time itโs true. When someone says โI donโt like X, I prefer Y.โ Thatโs a serious person. Screeching โshittersโ and ban evading but offering nothing of substance comes from a place of envy.

>>18478339 (OP)the numbers ruin it. this would be a really cool watch if it didn't have the 9 6 and the indices and the date and the rolex crown and the honeycomb and the fluted and the shape of the rolex lettering contrasting the web and the seconds on the edge of the dial.
there is so much going on
>>18478931Excuse me, who precisely is ban evading?
>>18479063You know, until I saw your post and looked more closely at it I didn't even realize the watch has unique hands. I guess that's how busy it is.
If it just had those hands, lume stick markers and a simple glossy dial it would probably be fine with no other changes. I've started to move out of liking the flutes but it's a rolex thing they're married to at this point so I'll let them have their fluted jubilee combo shit I guess. A smooth bezel would probably be better.
>>18479063>>18479095Thatโs exactly it. If they had stuck to just one new element, like the integrated case and bracelet, and left everything else normal, it would have been much better.
I do think that this is not really meant to be a new pillar collection, but more like a test bed for new ideas. The ones that work well will end up in the DateJust, the ugly features will be discarded.
Rolex does that, like with the old Pearlmaster, but never in such a high profile rollout.

>>18479544>will hang around for about ten years or so and then be quietly discontinuedNah, i think they made it cluttered on purpose so that they can keep 'refining' it by taking stuff away.
>>18479438Don't ask, he's obsessed with some guy who posts here, just leave it...
>>18479548Based on what? If the new movement is that much better there's no reason not to put it in their other watches and once that happens there will be nothing special about this shitter.

>Rolex>first new model in like 20 years>stainless steel integrated bracelet sports watch>36 and 40mm>gold and diamond options for arabs, jews and chinksThis is basically a recipe for success.
The new movement is pretty much irrelevant by the way. They could have put a 3235 into it, it would still be a massive success. People don't buy luxury watches because of theirs specs.
Also the watch looks fucking cool and is instantly recognizable as a Rolex despite being a new model (fluted bezel, jubilee bracelet, cyclop). You may not like Rolex' design language but people love it and Rolex got everything right with the Land Dweller (well, except for the name).
It will launch in September. Just wait and see the price on the grey market in a few months.

>>18480198I was torn between the cream dial and the gold 38mm until a few weeks ago. Another anon pointed out that the cream renders more like custard yellow in some lights, so there's that. >>18480198If it's your only watch, right.

>>18480298Not a fan of De Bethune either, I just think it's the most elegant way to display reserve.

It's called linear power reserve and I don't really agree it can be reduced to "windows loading bar". Though I guess in its first iterations it was considered kind of an industrial look.
Yesterday I got the first scratch on the side of one of the lugs on my gold watch. >>18480432>Talk me out of buying this Mako for 200 dollarsisnt that ray 2? if you like it you buy it, it's that simple. just make sure to hold off buying on a whim. when you discover a watch, let 10 or 20 days pass and see if you really like it then. also, orient has a shit load of models with slight variations, make sure you find the one you like the most. you dont want to purchase A and discover slightly different but better looking B the next day
i prefer the mako 3. arabic 6, 9, 12 make it more readable and interesting to look at in my opinion. ray feels like it has too many circles. i know its basically sub ripoff, but while rolex makes it work, orient doesnt for some reason. maybe it is due to more distinct battons at 6, 9 and 12 , idk

Breguet is just classier and has higher levels of finishing. And they are more willing to take design risks while remaining true to their more conservative design language.
Itโs a more interesting brand to collect with way better bang for your buck on the secondary market.
Patek has a lot of trashy consumers too now. Itโs something a Chinese hype beast or rapper would wear.
Itโs just better to be associated with other people. Even if those other people are old people and Eastern European criminals.

>>18478342Whose side is green girl on? I don't understand her allegiances.
i would normally wear a watch for time based work and see if i manage to get stuff done before the hour is finished. what would be the best watch for heavy handiwork like woodwork? or maybe its not reccommended for woodwork. also, what is also best work for heavy lifting to the point of an overexhaustion? anyone that knows these things is definitely watch expert.
>>18481020Patek is shit now but they'v had an amazing run between the 50s and 2000s. The 3940 and 3970 are still the best looking perpetual calendars.
>>18481020for me, it's ATTESA
>>18481020I think the pateks are more timeless because they use a refined but uncomplicated design aesthetic. Everything is polished and clean and simple. Most of the time at least, I'm not talking about the weird edgelord "how do yoi do fellow kids?" calatravas that look like poker chips or something.
Breguet with their old timey looking clock hands and old romans and scripts and guilloche portions of the dials and all that shit just screams old snobby grandpa. Patek is an old rich guy watch brand, too, but a young cool guy like Eric Clapton in his time or John Mayer wearing one still works. With breguet I can't see just casually wearing one, you have to be in a nice suit and someone better either be getting married or getting buried.

๐
>>18483445I agree, thats why I increased the strap size to 20mm (wanted to go to 22 but that would require a custom back cover too) and it makes the step less pronounced. its overall a little thinner than a stock one though anyways so it helps not stick out so much.
A big problem with making the step go away entirely is the location of the screws. to make the step go away would require the entire thing to be made longer. I already had to hide the outer edges of the cover be hidden inside the underside chamfer. There's not a lot of space and making the entire unit longer would really make the watch stick out more because it wouldnt wrap around the arm nicely

I got one of these fuckers and the only real problem I have with it is that it's fucking impossible to read in low light. It really needs something to help with that like lume for the hands and markers, applied faceted markers, and LED backlight for the screen, something. Also it wouldn't hurt if the screen was taller, it's dark and crammed up enough to make it a little hard to tell where the ends of the numbers end and the edges of the screen begin with the shadow in between.

But itโs actually even shittier.
Itโs the โcaliber 8000โ (later called caliber 2280).
Itโs an ETA 2982 with a Dupuis-Depraz module. Thatโs why the date wheel looks so sunken in and why the running seconds is at 12, not 9 like a normal 7750.

>>18484155The only thing Omega is good for is getting Rolex to improve their own products.
When the first Bond Seamaster bracelet came out, it was so much better than the stamped, hollow Oyster bracelet. Rolex turned around and engineered one of the best bracelets ever.
When Onega started pushing their coaxial bullshit and promoting their longer power reserves, Rolex started doing some actual movement development of their own, culminating in the Landwhalerโs movement
If Rolex isnโt forced to, they would never change a thing.
>>18484160>The only thing Omega is good for is getting Rolex to improve their own productsI don't think omega is going to get them to unfuck their own designs with the ROLEXROLEXROLEX shit. as it stands, Omega's designs still look good because they didn't fuck them up just to screw over counterfeiters who were going to emulate their shit anyway
>>18484166>Omega's designs still look goodnew railmaster.
>>18484166Rolex is gradually improving. Theyโre phasing out the Maxi-case, for example. Theyโre just an incredibly slow-moving company.
>>18484170I'll give you that one, that thing is basically a $5400 seiko. But its existence doesn't make the speedy or aqua terra look any worse, and those are the two that people actually give a shit about
>>18484022Precious metal watches are absurdly overpriced at MSRP. There's a reason a Breguet halves in value the moment you get your credit card out of your wallet.
Add the fact that absolutely no one cares about Girard Perregaut and that watches from the late-90s and early 2000s are some of the least sought after and it's almost a miracle that it doesn't sell for even less.
>>18484022GP in particular loses value like crazy. I don't have a very good explanation why, the company is still around and still offering maintenance for their watch, albeit expensive. They're a bit more fragile financially since they're not part of Richemont/Swatch/LVMH but I doubt they're near bankruptcy either.
I get the feeling that for Richemont brands, besides the obvious marketing budget that GP does not have, the constant price hikes also raise the value of second hand models and kind of hides this effect, with your reverso from 10 years ago still selling for about you bought it for, setting aside the fact that the same model went x3 in MSRP in the meantime.
Back to GP I have two of them, they're quite unique on the market in that their used models can get you unusual complications at a quite unique price point. Stuff like JLC for example will be at least twice as expensive for comparable (worse?) finishing and condition.
For example recently I was considering this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMb3onEWZnA that you could get basically brand new with box and papers for a little more than 3kโฌ, quite an unique proposition for a watch with date, GMT and alarm. I eventually decided against it as it looked a bit too gimmicky for me.
I saw Ozzy Osborne in a clip from an interview and I thought he was wearing a horrendous mall shitter, but on closer examination it appears to be a Cartier Ballon with a diamond bezel? Is this a metalhead watch? Is this even a good watch, or is it a shitter? It looks gigantic on him but at least it appears to be pretty thin.
>>18484199Yeah, itโs a Ballon Bleu. I canโt tell if itโs got a diamond bezel or if thatโs just the reflection of the studio lights.
He may be rich and famous, but heโs still an uneducated Brummie, meaning heโs never been particularly tasteful.
>>18484203It definitely has diamonds on the bezel. That was one of the reasons I thought it was a mall shitter, because it's a cheesy looking gold color like fake gold watches sometimes have and sparkling with what I thought might be fake diamonds. The only watch I could find that looks like it on the Cartier website is this one, but it's 36mm and the watch Ozzy is wearing appears to be larger than that unless he has small wrists. He's somebody, so maybe cartier would do the 42mm model diamond set as a custom job for him, or maybe it's an older model they don't list anymore.
I don't think I like the watch in general but in a way I like it for him because he's wearing something he apparently likes that I never see anyone else wearing and he didn't just go "rolexrolexrolex" for the sake of it like every other celebrity, or even within the Cartier line he didn't just pick a tank louie or santos as the easy choice everyone goes for.
>>18484205>>18484206There are other pictures of him wearing it, I guess he wears it out pretty often.
>>18484205> or maybe it's an older model they don't list anymore.Thatโs probably the case, since they definitely used to make the 42mm version with a diamond bezel.
>>18484218They have one now, but it's rose gold and on a leather strap.
>>18484029Sup anon, I think you replied to me a few days ago when I was asking about the OQ. Beautiful watch and my favorite Rolex. I forgot to ask, how is the ticking sound? I had an old swatch with a loud tick, and it annoyed the shit out of me. If this was silent, I'd buy in an instant (apparently they fixed the loud tick in the never released 5335 movement, but that wasn't to be). Also, are you worried about long term serviceability? Apparently only RSC services these things, and people think Rolex might decline service in the next 10-20 years. You think there's any truth to that?
>>18484244>I forgot to ask, how is the ticking sound? I had an old swatch with a loud tick, and it annoyed the shit out of me. If this was silent, I'd buy in an instantNTA but I'm surprised swatches have that problem, I thought it was only super cheap timex watches that did that. even $15 casio analogs are pretty much completely silent
>>18484245This was around 2013, so it's possible they fixed it. I recently bought a 2-handed Swatch Skin Irony which is completely silent, so it's not all models.
>>18484244i did. it's my all time favourite watch.
it is a very noticeable tick. it's the sound from the lever moving a gear, not unpleasant or cheap sounding but if you're sensitive to sound it will go on your nerves. it grew on me quite a bit.
as for serviceability, who knows. it's a vintage and obscure watch, there are some things you just have to accept with these. if you want to play it safe wait wait for rolex to release a landwhaler without that hideous dial.
>>18484244You can hear it in good quality on watchfinder's channel.
>>18484193They just did a merger with ulysse nardin not too long ago actually. So both can cut expenses
But what two watches do you own?
>>18484273Yes, it's a solid powerful tick. I would honestly kinda like it most of the time (especially as a power move in a quiet conference room), but would also appreciate a way to turn it off (I am indeed sensitive to sound). The 1530 or 1630 are also options, but not a fan of the dials or bracelets. We'll see. Might just settle for a regular vintage DJ like pic related, but there's just something about the OQ that I can't seem to shake.
