Why dont we go back to wearing suit for everyday use? If you use modern material like RIPSTOP it would be super comfortable and you could just put it into washing machine. For shoes you could wear some black leather sneakers.

I'm an attorney and not even we want to go back to wearing a suit every day. It is very uncomfortable and a terrible thing to have to wear in both summer and winter.
Good luck with your crusade, I guess.

Hot take: everyone who says that wearing a suit every day is unfeasible because "it's too hot" or because "it's too uncomfortable" are pussies, wrong, and either have shitty suits or have never tried wearing suits regularly.

I wear suits about half the time when I go out. I live in Texas and I wear suits in the summer. Wanna know how I stay cool? I take the fucking jacket off when i'm too hot. There are also a lot of different kinds of suits. I don't wear my thick wool one during the summer, but I wear my thin linen one and I stay cool af.

If your suit isn't comfortable, that's a you problem. get it tailored, you probably look like shit anyways. A nice, tailored suit made out of a quality fabric and a quality liner should not be uncomfortable.

So you don't wear a suit, you wear dress pants. Dress pants are also one of the worst items of clothing in existence. Easy to damage, needs dry cleaning, looks stupid by itself, feels unsubstantial like pajamas. Just wear a blazer and chinos.

I pop the jacket off briefly for long moments in the heat. It goes back on in the shade or inside.

I wear skirts and they stay clean and undamaged, so no idea what your problem is. Getting a suit dry cleaned is likeโ€ฆ whatever. I never have to do it often enough for it to matter. As for how it looks, it looks fiiiiine. Lots of old photography of men without their jackets on and those chaps look alright. Get a 3 piece if you feel like your look isnโ€™t substantial enough without the jacket, maybe youโ€™ll like a vest. The jacket is intended to come off sometimes.

Ops picture has potential. The idea would be to make suits more of a utility than a formality. Notice many articles of clothing such as coats started as military apparel before being civilian. It would have to be redesigned in a casual and uniform sense much like a tracksuit before itโ€™s built back up as formal attire in the far future.

Suits are comfortable when you get them made to measure.
When you buy them off the rack, even if you have them tailored, they're still not going to be very comfortable.

Honestly, the thing is crazy comfortable and somehow keeps me cool too. I donโ€™t even know how people hate wearing suits. I feel like suits should only come from tailors who actually make them just for you, you know?

The singular reason is because the standard of tradition is less important than ever. Suits have long been unfunctional, uncomfortable, and not the most masculine or flattering thing you could wear. They wore them anyway because the conservative tradition of wearing them was socially reinforced. It was considered appropriate, like going to church or returning the cart. Nobody cares about things like this now.

stop wearing it off the rack, maybe? a well tailored suit is extremely flattering. as for masculinity, if you don't think a men's suit is masculine as fuck, you may have a parasite in your brain. they got shoulder pads and they make you look a bit boxier, plus they can be slimming or make you look beefy depending on what suit you wear.

nobody is making you wear a suit, but your reasons are dogshit bait.

You can't escape modern societal perceptions of men wearing full suits any more than you can escape modern societal perceptions of men wearing dresses or make-up. It hasn't been the norm for years and you will never not look like a "tryhard" to 90% of people in the western world if you are even attractive enough for anyone to assume you're not dangerously autistic. It's become idiosyncratic. It sits in the "almost normal" spot, just a few steps above a matrix trench coat and maybe one step above a fedora. If you are to wear one outside of very specific circumstances, you should absolutely keep this in mind. Pretending you don't look autistic even if you do does no-one any favors.

Dunno what this guy is going on about, but if anyone is actually thinking of wearing kilts as a formal or semi-formal thing, make sure you actually get the right highlandwear jacket (PC, Argyll, or Day Jacket) rather than just wearing saxonwear jackets and calling it a day. The former is cut shorter to match the higher waistline of the kilt and to allow space for the buckle, whereas the latter will just cover it all and bang against the sporran. Looks real ratty when you wear the wrong top.

Or just wear a sweater and/or a shirt ig

The truth about
>suits are too hot
Is actually simply a skill issue
They are hotter than modern clothing, it's not about linen, or being fat, it's actually a fact, they are hotter than modern clothes.

But you have gotten used to modern clothes, and so you cannot tolerate this heat and you sweat.
If you make a committment to wear a suit everyday, and I mean everyday, all day. You will get used to it and it will not be so hot.

Most people did not own summer suits, they owned 1-2 or suits, and that was just so that they could wear the other while one was being cleaned. It was a heavy wool, much heavier than even the heaviest wools today, and they wore this all year round.
You just have to get used to it.
If you live in a cold country and suddenly you move to a hot country you bemoan the unbearable heat, but eventually you acclimatize to it. The suit is no different

side note, yes polyester suits do not breathe properly, but this is applicable to tshirts and shoes likewise, everyone agrees that polyester of any kind is worthless, it's not just suits.
But even so, the suits of the past were so heavy that they outweigh the heat issues of polyester even still

This is shit but I do wear utilitarian โ€œsuitsโ€ from universal works adjacent to this casually frequently. Itโ€™s not uncommon, European millennials/gen xโ€™rs been doing this

>It is very uncomfortable and a terrible thing to have to wear in both summer and winter.
Lol you own a plastic suit.

This idnwhat happens when you wear polyester. Sucks in all weather. I had a pair of trousers made from tropical wool and it feels amazing. It's honestly more comfortable than sweatpants. I wear them casually I don't care.

It's true that mostly the gentlemen class had the money for such extravagances until off the rack became very common around the 30s. Also regional differences, men in the South were more likely to have them, whereas people in Chicago like that photo wouldn't.

i'm interested in doing this but the issues i'm running into are that i'm a cheapskate secondhand clothing buyer and i can't find a casual suit much less one where both the top and bottom are the right size. and that i'm frequently kneeling for work and hobbies so i'm loathe to get nice pants, especially if they aren't machine washable

>Did I fuck up
>wool suit
no you did not fuck up as long as the fit is good

because while wool>โˆž>polyester
well tailored and fitting polyester>poorly fitting wool
