can anyone point me in the direction of a cheaper alternative to Pendleton's board shirt?
there's obviously all variety of cheap flannel shirts out there but the cut is never right. Pendleton seems to be the only one with a straight hem and camp collar.

cholos stole their look from white socal surf rats.

cut's wrong. the hem is like a shirt rather than a jacket, and they have a regular oxford collar. Pendleton's stuff is basically an unlined shacket.

The answer is ebay / vinted. These things are all over second hand webstores and are easy to get (i have like 6). The reason to get a Pendleton, even second had is the fact that it is wool. Imo and used one is worth more than a new cotton shirt from another brand because the material is higher quality and serves a useful purpose in the colder/rainy months.Flannel was originally always wool, it is the material of choice for this type of garment.

I was mostly interested in the cut, I could live without the wool because it doesn't get cold enough where I live to warrant it.

Ll beans chamois shirts have a straight hem and camp collar but they are also much warmer than a normal flannel. Chamois is still cotton but it's a thicker, tighter weave and brushed. It's more like a jacket.

the hem is right but the collar isn't, they've still got a button-up 'shirt' collar clearly meant to be compatible with a tie. Camp collars have a specific wide and flat cut to them because they're meant to be worn open and without a tie. it's the same collar you'll get on a bowling shirt or a Hawaiian shirt. They originated on leisure shirts you'd wear camping or to the beach back before t-shirts were a thing.

The cotton flannel Pendletons are nicer and have a better cut than just about anything else I've ever found as well. I only buy them because I happen to live like 10 minutes from one of their outlets and get them for like $30 when they go on clearance in the spring though.
