What are some good quality belts? Are the mall brands (H&M, GAP, etc.) good enough? Better to buy second hand? Thoughts on an optimal amount of leftover belt length? Chime in bros.

H&M and Gap aren't good enough, no.
Armani or Hugo Boss make good quality belts.

Etsy unironically, random leatherworkers will sell you one that outlives you for 40 bucks

I usually buy them for quality shoemakers, especially if I'm going to get new shoes, so to make sure they match

Just make one. Buy some leather blanks and some punch tools and some string. Belts are retardedly overpriced.

I have a belt from H&M that's made in Sweden and it's pretty nice quality.

Anyone know where I can get leather belts with some interesting subtle patterns? Preferably EU

Boot barn. Or just go on tandy leather and buy some stamps because it's really easy

For good quality belts, look for full grain leather.

Anderson's belts are good quality and can be used for smart/casual outfits.

For statement belts, Allsaints are good enough for their price

the type of leather won't tell you much about the quality

Full grain certainly covers wide a range of quality, but if you're coming in more or less blind, a good place to start is learning what to watch out for, e.g. bonded leather.
