Make an impression or be ghosted. If the date person is a serious and appreciates fancy dressing then that is exactly what you should do but make sure the context is appropriate.

unless the date is explicitly rustic like a picnic or hike or something you pretty much can't lose from dressing up. even if the girl dresses down women still have to put a in a massive amount of work before a date. hair, nails, makeup, etc. so they pretty much always appreciate if the guy dresses up.

I usually wear some kind of button down shirt, jeans, and service boots. Which button down shirt and jeans depends on the context though, and obviously I’ll wear a jacket or a sweater if it’s cold. Last date I went on I wore a Barbour button down, black jeans, and black service boots.
