how short is too short?

I wore women's 2.5in patagonia barely baggies at the gym as a 6'3" man but I dunno man people probably laugh at me

The picrel is actually the perfect very shortest you should go. Around mid-thigh. That length looks good, but any shorter than that and you might as well just wear a speedo.

regardless if unpopular or not, i think knee-length is the ideal length. any shorter OR any longer than knee-length starts to look bad. slightly above or slightly below is also fine, though not too far in either direction

I wear 5 inches but it feel a little awkward when I am moving and people could see that my boxer briefs are showing. Probably need to get 3 inch boxer briefs next

Briefs are always an option, ya know. I'm not being sarcastic either. Outside of middle school bullying literally no one gives a shit if you wear briefs or not. And you always have the option to wear boxer briefs with pants, and to wear briefs with shorts. And if you really care you can wear boxer briefs when you know for sure you're gonna have sex with a woman, if you're worried she'll make fun of your briefs.
Unless for you it's just an inherent physical discomfort thing about briefs and nothing to do with the stigma. In that case, yes, go with 3 inch boxer briefs.

I did wear a pair of brief and didn't like. I'm a runner so I'm fairly on the thin side with decent leg and calves, but I couldn't get into briefs due it's feel skimpy.

It has nothing to do with fitness you fag. Nobody's walking around in only underwear to worry about how they look in them if they're unfit. Some guys prefer briefs because out of all the underwear types they provide the most support. With boxers you always have to worry about your package flopping around and getting stuck in weird angles and places. Briefs on the other hand hold them in place the entire time. trunks/Boxer briefs are like a middle ground. They provide decent support like briefs while also being somewhat roomy and breathable.

I'd agree with you if you said a speedo, which is publicly worn, but briefs are literally just underwear, lol. No one's gonna see it except for maybe VERY briefly in a locker room and the woman you're sleeping with. It doesn't matter if you're fit enough or not.
