I LOVE wearing ties, even though I’m pretty much the only guy in my office wearing one. Regularly get compliments from chicks. I’ve been buying up loads of vintage designer silk ties on Vinted for next to nothing.

If "Christian church suit = casual," then yes.
Otherwise, no.

Contrast shirt, same/similar material as coat (no coat = does-not-apply)

My favorite tie is a green/tan knit tie with a square base that's too small for me (not the tie's fault, I'm just tall). I pair it with corduroy and suede, which I own a lot of.

in winter I like to wear knit or paisley ties with thick shawl cardigans and corduroy, flannel, or cavalry twill pants

Ties are nice with a suit because it holds everything together around your neck so it is straight and symmetrical

I'm an eccentric mid-30's dude who manages a quirky independent retail store so I get a lot of mileage out of the rolled sleeves/tie look. Got a nice knit burgundy tie today over a dark green vertical stripe shirt. It looks super dorky. I love it.
