The only people I see wearing these are old black/asian ladies, but I also live in the deep south where no one ever really wore masks or gave a shit about the pandemic at all in 2020, much less five years later.

In California, the only people who wear these are three distinct types of people.

Trannies who try to hide their man faces. They wear them in solid black, sometimes with a kitty face on them. They have the typical “I fell for the internet memes” outfit looking like a twitch streamer in a goth schoolgirl outfit.

The second are old Asian women. These people are fresh from Hong Kong. It’s simply a part of their modern etiquette from their country. Japan does this too, though there aren’t many Japanese people here.

The third are your raging lefty feminist women. No, not your college student, your punk girl, or anyone below 35. These are the older art teacher, dyke, feminist protesting women who look like old wrinkly witches but instead of coming from a hut in the forest, they are from affluent areas in the hills. They recently went through a divorce and their death stare shows their sexual frustration behind their masks.

My 60 year old uncle still wears one. Another archetype is the nostalgic: someone who subconsciously desires quarantine to happen again. He always tells me about new variants. These people often don't leave the house much already, and they watch a lot of news.
