Thoughts on below knee socks for men? From some reading they seem to have been the traditional wear of men in the early 20th century, but socks got shortened due to the world wars due to cheaper to produce.

Historically, socks were up to below the knee but required a garter to tie or hold them them as elastics were not available. These days they exist as "above the calf" socks and I believe they are more comfortable than half length dress socks since they grip less tightly overall being taller. If you're wearing formal trousers and dress shoes get OTC socks as they are more comfortable and typically higher quality since they have become more of a niche product.
